Dubbletalk Episode 74 - Question of the Week

Question of the Week:
“What underrepresented animal would you like to see as a talking sidekick and what anime character would you pair them with?”

In Search Of The Lost Future: Complete Series (Sub Only) – Coming Soon

LOL
another sub-only release from Funi.

oh how the times have a changed…:smirk:

And not for the better. :frowning:

Now that they’re in some way part of the NBC-Comcast-Universal empire, I expected to see penny-pinching moves like this come to an end. Dunno how they can broadcast dub seemingly everything under the sun but slam on the brakes on home video releases like this.

If Discotek had its act together I wouldn’t be too adverse to Funi punting whatever they get but can’t/won’t (pick one lol) dub over to them, keeping the Funi dub reputation intact. But AFAIK Crunchy dropped 'em in that capacity.

###Crunchyroll, Funimation Announce Partnership to Share Content Via Streaming, Home Video, EST

Funimation to dub, distribute Crunchyroll titles digitally, on home video

Funimation & Crunchyroll Working Together to Bring You More!

The Unholy Alliamce has been struck. In a way it’s actually a great move for both sides, as they can focus on what they do best, and everyone wins. Home releases are the big question though, if Testament of Sister New Devil is being dubbed, who is going to handle the home video releases?

It also alleviates Funimation’s Brave Witches issue for fall.

Edit: Funimation is handling home video releases on the titles they dub.
Edit 2: I just realized that by doing this they should be getting back the FMA: Brotherhood dub.

Exciting News From Funimation and Crunchyroll!

Now the big question is: What is Section 23’s response to this? Do they basically dissolve TAN and play ball with both CR and Funi? Stay as they are and basically become a more professional version of Discotek?

We shall see in the next year what they plan to do.

Some interesting absences from those lists between the 3 sources (ANN, Funimation, and Crunchyroll)

-Re: Zero
-Konosuba

These being the 2 big ones not on any of the lists.

Re: Zero I assume the license fee is too high for anyone to think they’ll make the money back easily enough after dubbing it. Wouldn’t surprise me if the cost to license was like 95% of the costs with dubbing.

Konosuba might be taken already. Almost every show its licensor handles tends to have their home releases be made weeks within their release, like Chaika.

:astonished:

Is a new economic crash just around the corner and the companies are prepping as they see fit: some by partnering up to lessen the financial blow, others by cutting back on licenses, etc.

Hmmm…

So… does this mean one less bill to pay? Cuz I mean if both are going to have the exact same anime then I only need one subscription… right? LOL

Edit: Wait no, nobody answer that I get it now… Crunchyroll is carrying the subtitles and FUNimation is the dubbs. I’m fixed now.

I wonder if Discotek could’ve had a shot at being Crunchy’s home media partner if they’d been more on the ball (assuming they wanted the job)?

This alliance concerns me as I was getting the feeling that Funi had bitten off far more than it could chew before this was announced, they were struggling just to tread water with their Broadcast Dubs. Hopefully not having to blow money in a vainglorious crusade to one-up Crunchy will leave them with the $ to get their house back in order.

The AoA head honcho seemed peeved that Funimation was hogging AoA’s glory with FMA so I wonder about that.

I see that ANN lists “Attack on Train” as a title that Funi will be moving. What does that mean for Amazon? I’m kinda bummed that ANN seems to be implying that Phantom World will be a Funi title.
