Golgo 13

Ep. 1

The mafia guys looked more like stereotypical 70s cops then mob guys. At first I thought they were cops.

Ep. 2

Shell casings actually cool down really fast. Though the one time I somehow put one down my shirt it did not cool down fast enough.

I think I’ll have to ask you about that someday!

Another anime for my list of favorites! Golgo 13 is certainly one very ā€œtalentedā€ assassin. Episode one was a great start to the series and I liked episode two just as much. The cops are pretty smart, but just can’t prove he did it.

I’m a bit backed up on Golgo 13 episodes but I didn’t want the stupid ā€œGolgo 13 - Kewpie?ā€ subject line to keep popping up because people just hit ā€œreplyā€!

I just look at that Kewpie, but i have seen worst, but I heard an rumor that theres an Golgo 13 beer. Can someout find out…

I found some coffee…

Very manly coffee!

Probably tastes like man sweat.

GARR!!!

New Swamp Crotch flavor!

Duke is the man! I can’t wait to get this on DVD. Theron Martin gave this a good review, I loved Dezaki’s original movie, and even Sentai/Section 23 feels comfident in it, since they are ā€œgoing straight to dubā€ on this. This seems like the great show to just pop in randomyl and watch an episode or two every once in awhile. I need one of those anyway after I’m done watching this Case Closed boxset… I’ll probalbly be picking this up sometime this week.

VERY manly.

How about George Clooney for a live-action Golgo 13?

Not sure. George Clooney might be a bit too expressive.

Episode 6 -

I think this was my favorite episode so far. I never would have thought to hide a gun in a balloon. The whole thing was a perfect plan with an ingenious getaway. The cops will never be as smart as Golgo – or his lawyer! I had to laugh when Duchess wanted the Air Force called out to go look for the gun.

I’m actually enjoying this one so far, though I’m not sure how well it’ll work out with 50 episodes of him assassinating someone each episode, I think that might get rather repetitive and boring after awhile.
I hope they throw in a few twists just to keep it interesting, but we’ll see as it progresses.

This would be awesome for Adult Swim! I have already seen this show and would happily watch it again on their late night programing

Ran across this while looking for Green Tea Kit Kats…

They did a bit on Golgo 13 tonight on Attack of the Show’s Asian Underground segment.

Note: Golgo 13 can be seen at around 02:30. The first two live action trailers contain violence.

Episode 6:

OK, this episode really annoyed me! First off, I don’t believe there’s ever been a gun that has been successfully made completely from plastic. A Google search confirms this fact. Even if there was, there would still be metal in it, in the form of either springs, pivot pins or fasteners.
*
Second, no political convention would have a carnival conveniently located just outside it, especially one with traditional cartridge-firing rifles in the midway. The Secret Service would have a fit!
*
Third, I do not know of any political convention that has been held in an open stadium, at least since I’ve been alive. I don’t count Obama’s acceptance speech in the 2008 Democratic convention as it was after the fact of his nomination.
*
Fourth, political conventions do not work the way the writers of Golgo 13 had them work. Haven’t they seen the long, drawn out nominating process before? I know they could access to any number of videos of the process so they could see it in action. They had the nominee announced like it was a winner in a third rate beauty contest ("…and the winner is…").
*
Finally, I’m sure that no police agency, faced with trying to counter the threat from the ā€œworld’s greatest assassinā€ would be so Keystone Kops-sloppy as the ones portrayed in this episode.
*
Frankly, even with trying to suspend disbelief, the plot holes that could be avoided with a little bit of research and the obvious sloppy research (especially when compared to series such as Full Metal Panic! and Gunslinger Girl) are driving me to abandon Golgo 13 as not worth the 25 minutes a week it takes to watch it. I’ll give it one more week-if things don’t improve, I’m pulling the trigger on Golgo!

Not that there’s anything wrong with your opinion, as each person has their limits, but I always have to have a good solid laugh when someone actually tries to compare anime to reality.

I’m glad you feel that way, Coffee, but when any show tries to set itself in a reality based world (no aliens, ghosts, demons, monsters, spirits, catgirls, androids, anthropomorphic animals, etc.) I would expect them to exercise a bit more diligence in their research. In fact, the two series I cited before-Full Metal Panic! (especially The Second Raid), which has robots; and Gunslinger Girl, which has cyborgs-both have exhibited more care in researching and getting right the framework they use to support their story than Golgo 13 does. Of course, it’s just anime, so if you want to have an assassin use a plastic gun that is so lightweight it can be supported within a single latex balloon to make an impossible shot, then be my guest.

Also no police agency would be allowed to search every car coming into the city and seize any firearms found.
