Pretty much it. We’re still paying the same amount for a service that now gets us half of what we used to have for years and, after months of asking for a reason why ( what a crazy concept ), we’re still getting the silent treatment from the higher-ups and/or Sentai.
Even if this is a case of “the newer dubs will eventually come one day”, it’s still all speculation ( for VOD at least ). Problem Children and Tamako Market ( which already aired once ) are dubs from this past Summer and are currently shown in their sub format. That theory doesn’t hold up either since even reruns of older shows ( like Broken Blade and Towanoquon ) were in their subbed version earlier this year.
It’s easy to ask for patience, but getting a few crumbles of information thrown in our way about a problem going out for months wouldn’t hurt either.
“The newer dubs will eventually come one day” is no more speculation than newer subs will eventually come one day. If anything, a claim that dubs will never again be on VOD can’t be really accepted as actual fact. It really wasn’t that long ago for at least a year to pass between a sub and a dub (and in the cases of Broken Blade and Twanoquon, it was vice-versa as TAN aired their dubs first on VOD).
I think if anyone wants some crumbles of information regarding dubs on TAN, then they may have to ask Sentai Filmworks themselves as TAN gets its programming from them. As said before, the folks here can only pass along the information they have, so you’ll probably have to call the higher ups at Sentai yourselves (which could be the most effective way of making changes if you’re currently unhappy with things as they are, IMO).
Hey Guys,
Dubs will be coming back to our VOD service. However, I can’t say when.
I wish I could give you all a timeline, I would be totally guessing and don’t want to mislead anyone.
We are dealing with several complicated issues between multiple parties. Beyond that, I can’t and won’t give any further details.
We do hear you and we are working towards bringing dubbed content back to our VOD service.
We really appreciate everyone’s interest and patience.
Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the info, much appreciated.
I hate to come across like such a whiner but it sucks when part of a (great) service is taken away without notice. For whatever it’s worth : all of my Sentai DVDs & Blu-Rays, dubs or not, were purchased after sampling the product here on VOD…even that damn Glass Mask with its missing second part !
Let’s hope all of that bunch of headaches, hassles and horse…er, manure, can be finally dealt with.
What Terry said.
I’m glad to hear some words of encouragement. It should be borne in mind, however, that these problems didn’t seem to exist before, certainly not to this extent. Getting a healthy mix of dubs and subs was the norm for years. These multiple parties need to fix their complicated problems before they lose us.
Nothing against spazzysam but I’m not sure what to believe. One thing not include dubs but just all the sudden just stop airing gatchaman 80 episodes in dubbed makes me wonder. If it was just a policy change it would be one thing. Not helping any clue to why these happening with dubs on VOD. Maybe being just cynical but I have learned not to take grain of salt when there appears to be more going on then being said.
ok has there been an update on whether or not dubs are coming to VoD? been checking the schedule for july and all i see is all subs again. please one of the higher ups answer this for me, or at the very least a time frame would be nice.

We’ll be making the August announcements next week, but I can let you know that dubs will be starting to VOD at that time.
Keep your eyes open for the monthly newsletter and announcement blog.

More dubs are needed Hulu/plus only shows new sub’s no dub’s, Netflix is a bit better with more Dub’s but not enough. I am glad Anime Network is on ROKU now I was about to cancel my account it needs work but is great with a lot of dubbed shows. A lot of people are slow English readers the paces is faster on Anime then live action Japanese shows which makes it hard to follow the story. Also a lot of people can speak English but not read English so dub’s are the only way to enjoy Anime.

If you’re talking about the Newsletter that went out, then yes, the ones that say Dub Releases are for VOD.
You’ll have to check your Provider Schedule to see if you’re getting those shows.
(And yes, I know, the August VOD schedules aren’t up yet. Watch this thread for updates for when the schedules go live.)

alright checked the schedule and yep my area gets at least 2 of the dubs (no Saiyuki bit of a shame) so i am happy. will there be future updates on which ones we get dubs for VoD? also when did dubbed start being called native? i was looking at the schedule and for the ones that weren’t subbed it had native instead of dubbed. it’s a minor thing and prolly me just nitpicking. i am just so glad we are finally getting dubs on VoD again!!!

You can sign-up for the AN Newsletter by sending an email requesting it to: info@theanimenetwork.com - be sure to include your email address. Tell them if you want the On Demand or Online Player newsletter (or both).
The newsletter tells about all the new shows for VOD & the OP.
However, you’ll have to check your VOD Provider schedule to see which anime you’ll be getting.
As for why the schedule is saying “Native” instead of “Dubbed” - no idea. But I’ll ask them next week to get an explanation.
You do know that Crunchyroll is the reason shows get delayed on TAN right, they get shows exclusively for a certain amount of time.
Since the topic was bumped :
Is there any plans to ever show up new dubs on VOD ? It’s great that dubs have returned since last August, but all them of have been repeats from 2012 - 2013. Most of them were repeats of good shows, but what are the odd of seeing dubs from 2014 - 2015 showing up on VOD ?
The online player has shows like Watamote. the last Rozen Maiden, Log Horizon, etc… available. Has those dubs been deep-sixed for VOD ?

New dubs not being available on VOD stems from several complex issues. Whenever we can bring a new dub to our VOD service, we will. It’s an ongoing topic that we are discussing with many parties behind the curtains here. Beyond that, I can’t really delve into specifics presently.
However, you all continuing to express a desire for new dubs on our VOD service is always welcome and very important. Please keep giving us your feedback.
