RahXephon (TV & Movie)

I’m surprised, I thought this would be a type of show you’d go for since it’s very much of a psychological and sophisticated series. It is a show that needs to be warmed up to like shows of this this nature, sometimes it’s not easy to get in.

The reviews on this one are spot on, it’s a masterpiece and as good as the critical hype.

Personally I think it’s superior to Eva since the story is a lot more celebratory. The RahXephon movie, I consider one of the top films around as well. Once I saw the movie, my love and appreciation for the TV series was elevated as well.

Ok…you just sold me on this series lol! I really do love the psychological and sophisticated shows out there!! If this show really is like that perhaps I will love it. I never pegged it as one of those series really. I know people like to compare it to NGE, but I didn’t really see the comparisions. This was a show however that I largely ignored. I like smart shows, so maybe I should give this a try. Like I said was not impressed by the first episode, but that doesn’t mean much. Perhaps I wasn’t in the right mood as well.

And you need to start from episode one. This is one where if you miss a certain episode, you will never figure out what the heck is going on. They have small tidbits of info in each one.

Yeah and the best part is the new version out is cheap and includes the movie along with the TV series! Psychopuppet had to spend a lot of money, if I remember to get all the volumes and the movie, back in the day.

Agreed with redshirt, gotta start from the beginning. It’s like Evangelion but not as dark and twisty. Just excellently crafted and executed. I linked to the ANN and AoD reviews on the first page - when was the last time you remember both giving A or A+ marks on the same title?

The dub is excellent also, definitely one of the top maybe 1-3 Matt Greenfield dubs.

I think it was episode one, and I still had no idea what was going on lol. All I remember was boom boom bang boom, the city was under attack, these aliens things in the sky, and a girl and boy in the subway and being very confused lol. The way things were happening did not make sense to me, even for a first episode though. But that was a long time ago.

Yeah it takes a few episodes to get going! It’s not as confusing as say Boogiepop though, the story in this one makes sense as it goes along. And the movie really goes a long way in opening one’s eyes to the little things in the series. It’s a series that every time you watch it, you see and learn something new with the plot intricacies. I’ve seen it twice start to finish and still there’s a lot of mysteries that unfold whenever I catch a random ep. here and there.

When I first saw it, I went, “OOkkkaaayyyy, I have got to see where they are taking this.” Indeed, they go from futuristic aircraft carriers and planes to modern city and jets with giant Clay things flying around making cool music blowing things up to guys with blood blood and her singing affecting him… They slowly explain it all over the 26 episodes

The deal with this show is that you know as much as the main character does from the beginning. You learn along with him. So you are as confused as he is right from the get-go.

You really have to watch it from the very first episode and stick with it for several shows to get a feel for what’s happening.

Ah , thank you guys very much. You’ve been very helpful. I will have to check this show out one day. Esecially if you guys think I’ll like it. It’s one of those shows I’ve ignored all these years, and never thought much of it.

Also surprised you don’t own Gantz Dragoon :stuck_out_tongue: . How did you watch it then? Was it played on VOD un-edited? Because I remember there being a problem with nudity in anime networks anime on VOD for awhile. This Ugly Yet Beautiful World was censored and I still remember that lol. Later of course with Mahormatic they showed everything. I own the thinpack of Gantz, the one that has both seasons and all the extras. But that gantz ball verson looks really epic, kinda wish i had that, even if it does get scratched up a little .

I pay-per-viewed it as the DVDs were coming out. Spent like $25 on PPV fees alone! I spent almost as much on the ppv fees as it costs to get the DVD set now. LOL :frowning: Also in 06/07 I had TAN SVOD through Akimbo IPTV as an addon service. Watched it there too.

As far as censoring yes, back in the day free Cable VOD providers required it and censored stuff up to around 2007. They started to get less lax about it around then. SVOD providers and Comcast PPV does not require edited versions, those are always un-edited.

Hmm thanks for clearing that up for me Dragoon  . Gantz was a good buy though, so hopefully you get to buying that one soon too. I always pegged you as owning it already though. Do you have a DVDaf account or nah? Be interesting to see what you own hehe

Not yet, I should make a list. The only list I’ve done is the ADV thread here - but it’s outdated, bought a bunch of Xbox stuff and the last Section23 RSI sale when I got stuff with Colorful. Most of my non-ADV stuff aren’t as many but they were super expensive - like Love Hina I spent $120 back in the day, Scrapped Princess around $100, I got ROD TV like around $100 too. Singles and sets were super expensive back then!

And yeah I need to get Gantz asap… right now my priority buys Section23 and ADV buys I’m trying to get asap in the next few months are Gantz, RahXephon, Cromartie, Super MilkChan for the ADV label stuff; for Sentai stuff Orphen, Clannad pt 2, After Story pt1 and 2, He is My Master, TLR, Hidamari Sketch, Blue Drop, Tears to Tiara, Ghost Hound, Maria Holic. It’s becoming a monster list, and there’s still a bunch more I need to get lol.

The only problem is balancing on how to afford this stuff.

Oh I would like to see what you own if you ever make the list. Its eaiser if you start now trust me, lol. Because the only hard part is making the list to begin with. After that as long as you keep it up to date it’s quite easy to handle. But if you keep buying, and don’t make the list, it’s just ganna be a nightmare lol.

Talking about our collections, I took a bunch of pictures of my DVD collection recently, once I get em developed I’ll be sure post em on the site.

I know what you mean by a never ending list of stuff to buy lol. I have so many things I have to buy, and never enough money in which to do it. Not counting all the CPM stuff I gata buy before they disapear forever, I stil have a million and half things to buy. From new stuff funi and Sentai are releaseing, to older ADV, Funi, and Geneon stuff, to whatever else I need. It’s really not possible to buy everything I want lol. And also there’s so much good out there, that I never understand when people don’t like anything anymore. I mean come on there’s a never ending amount of anime out there, gata be something your interested it lol.

Oh and sorry we’re so far off topic, hope that’s cool lol.

Fantastic series. This one I bought during my last anime shopping day. I felt like I saved so much more money getting the Grand Canon box set instead of buying the series and movie individually.

Yeah the storyline takes you for quite a thrill ride and one you have to ride for quite a while. Since the anime can get quite bumpy in certain episodes (confusion rising) Rahxephon isn’t one you can just get off midway, you have to keep your mind and soul inside the ride at all times in order to get it. Sometimes you’ll have to watch it over and over again because (like many animes) you start understanding things so much clearer or pick up on something new than the time before it and that’s the fun of anime.
Seriously nobody should be without this.

Then you look at Psychopuppet’s collection… and your mind explodes.
Seriously I have to play catch up so badly. I’ve got 7 series lined up for purchasing now that I have the money, all of which are here. 3 complete collections and 4 complete series (volumes only) I’ll be revealing those soon but I sometimes feel like I’ll never empty out my wish list. lol
