Press Release: Viewster introduces new series including K-On!, Highschool of the Dead, No Game No Life, Log Horizon and Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
Aug 27th 2015

New Anime Series That Disarrange Your Brain in Episode 1
8/28/2015 3:56:28 PM

Most of the time, you walk into a new anime series with clear expectations based on the cover art, the synopsis, even a few reviews. Sometimes though, you start streaming an interesting new anime and suddenly… your mind goes ka-boom.

If your mind hasn’t had a good “what the… huh?!” in a while, check out these new anime shows.

School-Live!

School-Live! started streaming in mid-2015, and it’s about a group of high school girls who love school so much, they live in it! Do you see this screenshot? Do. You. SEE. This screenshot? They look so happy! That puppy is all kinds of uncontrollable kawaii. These girls are in adorable high school girl uniforms, the colors are bright and chipper, and it all goes to H-E-double hockey sticks in the last ten minutes of the first episode. You’re welcome. Send your reactions to us via Twitter, if you are so inclined.

Monster Musume

While the last anime title relied on shock value and misleading cuteness, Monster Musume gets pretty straightforward, very quickly. While it looks like a typical hypersexualized harem anime (with super-hot monster girls no less), the typical anime fan has some pretty clear expectations of where this will go in terms of fan service. However, just when you think, “It’s not one of THOSE productions. It’s just an ecchi harem show, but it’s not, like, going to go there,” it goes there. It went there, and it got there in the first 10 minutes of the first episode. Also, it STAYED there (not ALL the way there, but pretty darn close).

Food Wars!

Anime is good at turning everything into a martial arts battle. Honestly, it’s a fan expectation at this point of the game. Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma is good at making cooking look intense, life threatening even. However, very little can prepare you for Food Wars-style foodgasms. To put it mildly, there’s a normal way to savor food, and then there’s a Food Wars way to savor food. After episode one of this new anime show, you will probably never, ever (like ever) look at “bacon juices” the same way again.

Aoharu x Machinegun

Your brain will spend most of the episode confused. The animators do an excellent job of making sure you forget that the main character is a girl. Hotaru speaks like a boy, dresses like a boy, and acts like a boy. By the surprise end of the first episode, you’re mostly thinking, “This looks like a promisingly hilarious new anime series, but is that really a girl?!”

BONUS: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?

The first episode leaves your brain feeling several types of confusion, mostly you’re wondering what the blue ribbon Hestia’s wearing is about. You can already tell that this is the start of a pretty epic series, but in between wondering about the excessively long title and Hestia’s wardrobe, your brain does end up feeling a little out of the ordinary.

You know you want to fall in love with a new anime series by the end of the first episode. Stream these brain bending titles and more on Sentai’s Hulu Channel, for free!

It’s a busy week for new releases here at Sentai, with three new titles, each with their own unique flavor to choose from. The long awaited Blu-ray release of K-ON! Season 1 is now available, so make sure to add it to your K-ON! Season 2 and K-ON! The Movie collections to complete the set. My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU also makes its way to blu-ray (don’t forget to check out the second season when you’re done with this!) and the first collection of mecha anime ARGEVOLLEN round out what’s available this week. What will you be bringing home?

ARGEVOLLEN COLLECTION 1
With the countries of Arandas and Ingelmia embroiled in a seemingly endless war, the creation of a new weapon may be the key to this battle’s end. When reckless mecha pilot Susumu saves a civilian caught in the crossfire of a battle, he unexpectedly finds himself as the pilot of the prototype weapon known as Argevollen. However, whether or not this new machine will be able to turn the tides of war will be up to Susumu himself.

K-ON! (SEASON 1)
It’s Yui Hirasawa’s first year in high school, and she’s eagerly searching for a club to join. At the same time, Ritsu Tainaka, a drummer, and her friend Mio Akiyama, a bassist, are desperately trying to save the school’s light music club, which is about to be disbanded due to lack of members. They manage to recruit Tsumugi Kotobuki to play the keyboard, meaning they only need one more member to get the club running again. Yui joins, thinking it will be an easy experience for her to play the castanets, the only instrument she knows. However, the other members think their new addition is actually a guitar prodigy…

See All the Qs & As at Ask.fm

http://ask.fm/SentaiFilmworks/answer/130425710301
Q. Have you ever licensed a show and not released it?‎
A. When we license a title our intent is always to put it out on home video. While some titles may take longer than others, that is absolutely the end game part of a process we go through when acquiring something. So believe me when I tell you that when we license a show, you can expect it to eventually hit home video by default. Thanks!

http://ask.fm/SentaiFilmworks/answer/130491274461
Q. Do you guys do all of your English dubs in house, or do you send them to other companies like Bang Zoom and NYAV?
A. In past years, Sentai relied on several outside studios including Seraphim Studios, Bang Zoom and New York AV for our ADR work. That changed in 2014 when Sentai built its own ADR facilities and brought those important functions completely in-house. Now every single Sentai Filmworks release is produced by, you guessed it, Sentai Studios.

http://ask.fm/SentaiFilmworks/answer/130492198365
Q. Do you guys have a Top 5 of your most requested shows to air on Toonami as of late? I would imagine that now that the possibility EXISTS you’ve gotten quite a few interesting requests for shows from your vault to get on Toonami.
A. Well the top two most requested titles, Akame ga Kill! and Parasyte -the maxim-, are either already on or making their way there. You guys really don’t waste any time either, we started seeing “Parasyte on Toonami pls” comments pop up almost immediately after we announced the acquisition!

As for other shows that may appear on Toonami…you tell us. What do YOU want to see on there? Hit us up on Facebook and Twitter and let us know what you think would be a good fit!

http://ask.fm/SentaiFilmworks/answer/130514253277
Q. Will we see more Sentai industry panels in 2016 outside of AX and ones in Texas?
A. We are absolutely trying to make it out to more cons next year, we love hanging out with you all! Expect more news on this front in the near future, but right now it’s looking good.

The only licensed show thay was never released was Ro-Kyu-Bu, and only because Warner Japan asked for the home video rights back.

If I had to guess, I’d think they’re referring to the stuff that was mentioned at Otakon 2013

Such as Big O, Scryed, Sacred Seven, etc.

The Bandai rescues, then.

I see a lot of questions about those titles on Twitter & FB a lot.

Oh good that puts my concerns at ease. I wondered what happened to that. Time flows and it never shows.

Ask Sentai #18: Nozaki-kun Box Sets and Sentai Studios

9/3/2015 3:47:15 PM

Welcome back to Ask Sentai! We’ve got a lot to cover today, so let’s get to it.

As always, if you have a question for us, make sure to post it on our ask.fm page and we will try our hardest to answer.

Next up: more than one regular director and a more robust script team?

I wonder if Funi/Sentai thought that it’d take this long to release the Bandai rescues when they announced 2+ years ago.

Funny Anime Characters Who Work Harder Than You Do
9/4/2015 4:07:37 PM

Happy (Future) Labor Day from your friends at Sentai Filmworks! Many of you are probably enjoying a well-deserved three day weekend where you can sit back and binge watch comedy anime to your heart’s content.

If you aren’t off, we’re sure you can identify with the following hard-working anime characters.

Maid-Sama!
Misaki is the student council president in a school which was previously an all-boy’s high school. When she isn’t in class, though, she works as a waitress in Neko Maid Café. She chooses not to leave because the money is good (don’t we all know THAT feeling?!), and she has to keep her part-time job a secret to protect her reputation at school. She really can’t catch a break.

RIN-NE
If Misaki in Maid-Sama can’t catch a break, then the main character in Rin-Ne is simply broke. Rinne Rokudo is a half-shinigami-half-human-kind-of-thing, and he has to work several jobs to pay off a debt he should never have been responsible for. In-between guiding restless spirits to the afterlife and exorcising evil spirits, he makes paper roses to sell for petty change and food money.

HIMOUTO! UMARU-CHAN
Even though he’s not the title character in Himouto! Umaru-chan, poor Taihei Doma is the hardest working person in this newer anime comedy series. When he is NOT cooking, cleaning, and/or fighting with his little sister, Umaru, he’s a hardworking salary man. Needy people seem to follow Taihei wherever he goes, considering that even his coworkers need babysitting.

SHIROBAKO
No breaks or off days for ANYONE in this comedy anime title. Shirobako is an anime… about making anime. These characters are frantically struggling through a super-tight anime production schedule, some of them spending late evenings in the office. You spend time sitting in on their production meetings, rushing to see different artists, and trying to understand what the director is thinking. If it’s possible for an anime to make you feel tired… it’s this one.

HAYATE THE COMBAT BUTLER!
If the title didn’t clue you in, the title anime character in Hayate the Combat Butler! has a lot to deal with, to put it mildly. Not only does his employer have a terminal case of tsundere, he often has to compete against other butlers who specialize in different, often eccentric, forms of combat (hint: one such butler challenged him to a Duel Monsters battle). No break for you, Hayate!

Comedy Anime to Binge Watch this Labor Day
If you’re feeling a little more grateful for your Labor Day weekend, you’re welcome. Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr what YOU’RE planning to binge watch this weekend!
