For those of you unfamiliar with the term, Iron Cosplay refers to a contest where cosplayers construct their costume with limited materials and/or a low budget! In this case, our office worker contestants have $20 and whatever casual clothes they already have in their closet to make the best costume they possibly can!

To preface, the “monsters” on this list fall under the yokai category. As an umbrella term, yokai covers a wide range of recognizable anime monsters, including spirits, animal-inspired monsters, and demons.

Adorable little Ai looks like a girl… but she’s actually a yomu, the monsters who inhabit the world of Beyond the Boundary. When she isn’t impersonating a human, Ai’s true yomu form resembles an adorable Munchkin kitten. Ai is helpful, sincere, and dedicated to her master. She also makes for a cute idol.

Foul-mouthed Tora (known in ancient times as Nagatobimaru) enters the story with the sole intent to eat the main character, but can you really blame him? The poor guy spent 500 years trapped in a basement, after all. Tora’s reactions to certain aspects of modern life are priceless (he’s enthralled by TV and moving vehicles), and his newly discovered love of hamburgers makes him all the more endearing.

Soushi is a nine-tailed fox yokai, sworn to protect Ririchiyo, the main character, with his life. He functions as the main character’s personal Secret Service agent, and who wouldn’t mind an otherworldly (not to mention drop-dead gorgeous) bodyguard to protect them? Also, his fox form looks super fluffy.

D is your typical tall, dark mysterious stranger. Running into him usually means danger is somewhere nearby, but meeting this half-vampire might be worth the stress. He’s also strong, handsome, and kind of a loner, but he’ll save your life if necessary.

A. Yes of course! Slice of life happens to be my favorite genre, too.

Easy anime cosplay sounds like an oxymoron, doesn’t it? However, it can be done! For this post, we consulted some of the best cosplayers in the Sentai Filmworks office to develop this list of easy anime cosplay ideas for you.
[size=16]Sora (No Game, No Life)[/size]
Throw on dark purple pants, a long-sleeve purple shirt, and layer Sora’s iconic yellow “I Heart Humanity” T-shirt on top of it. Bonus points if you can make your own arm-crown out of felt and rhinestones.
[size=16]Karasuno High School Volleyball Team (HAIKYU!!)[/size]
Depending on your hair color and preferences, you can be any one of the players in the Karasuno High volleyball team. Browse the active wear in your local store until you find an appropriate black and orange ensemble, and then add your own white numbers to cosplay as your favorite team member.
[size=16]Umaru Doma (HIMOUTO! UMARU-CHAN)[/size]
In regards to nearly instant, easy anime cosplay… If you can get your hands on Umaru’s orange hamster hood, you can probably get away with wearing anything you want underneath it. Just make sure you DO wear something underneath it. When it doubt, pair your hamster hood with a plain white T-shirt and pink bike shorts. (PS: If you CAN’T get that thing Umaru wears at home, you can try to make your own by tying off two sections of an orange hoodie to create ears on the hood.)
[size=16]Nice (HAMATORA: THE ANIMATION)[/size]
Nice’s outfit might be hiding in your closet. He wears a long-sleeve blue shirt, black pants, and large headphones casually wrapped around his neck. He also has three strategically placed white bandages on his face. Color us impressed if you’re able to dig up the yellow and black vest. Your outfit also gets bonus points if you find a way to accent it all with NEON!
[size=16]Totsuki Academy Students (FOOD WARS!)[/size]
The students at Totsuki Academy are all training to be chefs. With the exception of main character Soma (who never seems to wear the uniform), the other students wear a standard chef’s uniform: white pants and a 10-button white chef’s coat.
[size=16]Akira Soma (MEGANEBU!)[/size]
Wear glasses? Use it as part of your easy anime cosplay! Dig out a pair of dark blue jeans or pants from your closet, get your hands on a blue wrist band, land then layer a white shirt over a long-sleeve blue t-shirt. You can also copy his 90’s style sweater-around-the-hips statement.
[size=16]Rentaro Satomi (BLACK BULLET)[/size]
Got a suit? To cosplay as Rentaro, all you need is a black suit (bonus points if you can figure out how to line that suit in dark blue), a dark blue tie, and Rentaro’s cool “THIS IS MY GUN!” pose. If you’re game, you can invest in a pair of his trademark boots. Just make sure you button your jacket the right way: one button in the middle. He’s cool like that.
[size=16]Chie Satonaka (PERSONA 4: THE ANIMATION[/size]
With her green and yellow track jacket, black and gray houndstooth pleated skirt, and iconic pins, Chie is a recognizable, but still fairly easy, character to cosplay. Don’t forget the white socks and loafers! You also should generally avoid her habit of landing devastating kicks into annoying people.
[size=16]Yui Komori (DIABOLIK LOVERS)[/size]
Ladies or gents: can you get your hands on a sleeveless little black dress? For reasons that lie in spoiler territory, Yui spends the last few episodes sporting a black evening gown adorned with a red rose. If you’re feeling cheeky, you can draw vampire puncture marks around your neckline.
[size=16]Members of Toy Gun Gun (AORARU X MACHINEGUN)[/size]
Any of the three members of Toy Gun Gun in Aoharu x Machinegun make for a fairly easy cosplay with the items already in your closet. What makes the costume work, regardless of which character you choose, is the red Toy Gun Gun arm band. If you decide to carry around a replica of an air soft gun, remember to abide by convention weapon carry rules!
[size=16]EASY ANIME COSPLAY (MOSTLY)[/size]

Right around the middle of the 19th century, the dark overlords of the Late Tokugawa Shogunate ruled Japan with an iron fist. Because of this, the top idols in Shinsengumi are ordered to sing only Heaven’s Songs to brainwash and subjugate the masses, making writing or singing any songs besides Heaven’s Songs a capital offense. Enter: Sakamoto Ryouma and his Masters of the martial art OF ROCK! They must take charge as they change the old ways of a grumpy old guard while singing for what is just!

Q. Is simuldubs something you like to do with Sentai Filmworks (their rival has already started something like this)? What challenges do you think there will be if Sentai Filmworks were to pull this off?
A. If the big dogs at Sentai wanted to try something like that, I’d certainly be up to the task.
As far as the challenges are concerned - the main issues would be actor availabilities and the quick schedule. Less time to write, direct and proof. It’d be more of a sprint - like a fry cook.
Q. Do you hope you can get folks from L.A. like Vic Mignogna, Christine Marie Cabanos, and Johnny Yong Bosch in Sentai FIlmworks dubs? I’ve noticed Sentai has managed to hire a few folks from Dallas (who normally works for Sentai’s rival) in some of their dubs.
A. Whenever I can. But that’s mostly dependent upon scheduling. We kinda have to cross paths at just the right time to get somebody from out-of-state. But it’s always a possibility - and something I try to keep in my crosshairs.

Q. So many new dubs! Black Bullet! Brynhildr! And I loved those! Will there be more action dubs coming?
A. We’re glad you’re enjoying our stuff! As far as action shows coming down the pipeline, I believe we have RE: Hamatora slated for a January 2016 release. I see a few more coming out after that, but nothing has a concrete date yet. Nevertheless, more is on the way!
Q. Do you guys get excited when a currently airing series you license does well in Japan?
A. We get more excited about how a show does here in the States, actually! When we see how much love a show is getting on social and the rest of the web, it’s a big indicator of what kind of show we have on our hands. For example, all of you out there asking for a Nozaki-kun box set lately has let us know, “hey, there’s a big demand for this”, so we are always watching for reactions from you guys.
Although, the popularity of a show in Japan also has a lot to do with whether or not it gets a second season, so we are always rooting for some hometown popularity as well!

Q. Is there a good likelihood that more older shows that have sold well for you guys may get CE’s in due time?
A. A lot of things figure into whether or not a box set gets made, even with shows that have never been released. One of the big ones is demand. As you know we are forever looking through forums, tweets, FB posts and the like to figure out what kind of demand there is for our titles. If there’s enough demand for a show to get a CE we will definitely give it a long look, weigh out the possibilities and see whether or not it is possible at that time. Good question, thanks!
Q. So you guys got The Perfect Insider and Beautiful Bones? Ready to solve some mysteries?
A. These two are the shows I’m personally most excited about, because I love a good mystery. So far they have not disappointed, and we are eager to see what roads the shows take. What do you all think of them so far?
Q. What are some good ways of letting Sentai know that people want a certain LE of a title, or even if they want a certain title licensed?
A. Social! We’re always on, we’re always listening, so make sure to let us know what you’re thinking.
