Would Sentai tell us if they had? lol.

If Sentai were to simuldub then I could hope that they’d luck into a few “Rolling Girls” type better-than-average-contemporary-normal-dub ones but I’d rather they didn’t go down that road. It seems to me that even Funi is walking that initiative back. Though if Sentai were to simuldub I’d like to think that they’d have the guts to put accents in all of their dubs that call for them.

I dunno why so many seem to ask for CA actors to be called in. I’d love to have more roles from folks like Vic and Spike, but Sentai doesn’t need to “sign free agents”-the players on their roster are solid-what they need to sign are new coaches.

While there is no shortage of generally sparkly guys in romance anime, at least we’re lucky enough to avoid a particular class of broody vampires from the aforementioned book title. This October, as we celebrate the pending arrival of such otherworldly creatures, let’s offer a tribute to the supernatural romance anime that make the genre worthwhile.

No one ever said supernatural romance anime was exclusive to vampires. Anime has a wealth of otherworldly hotties, and Soushi from Inu x Boku SS takes the whole, “I’ll protect you with my life” concept to the next level. His complicated romance with reclusive half-oni Ririchiyo is simultaneously volatile and heart achingly awkward-cute. It’s so much more comforting than playing the childish, “I love you, but I’m dangerous, so I’m going to avoid you” game.

In this supernatural romance, the progression is as follows: boy who loves glasses meets a girl in glasses. Girl drives blood sword into boy’s chest. Boy is immortal because he’s half yomu, and girl tries to kill him again. Girl eventually realizes that boy genuinely respects her and cares about her. With the romance carefully sprinkled between all the humor and action, Beyond the Boundary is anime storytelling at its finest without the whining tone of a middle school diary filled with self-pity and indecision.

The heroine in Hiiro no Kakera, Tamaki, meets five powerful guardians, most of which are descendants of powerful oni. She eventually ends up juggling with the affections of her guardians and awakens as the powerful Tamayori Princess to save the one she loves. This refreshing take on the typical reverse harem pairs well-rounded bishounen with a heroine who can actually hold her own… instead of a heroine who seems to be more interested in playing the victim while struggling to figure out which guy loves her more.

One day, high school student Teiichi meets Yuko, a young woman in one of the school’s old buildings. She’s beautiful, mysterious… and she’s a ghost. Yuko can get a little mischievous and possessive, but it makes her all the more human. Despite her grim circumstances, Yuko tries her best to take her destiny into her own hands, and the romance between her and Teiichi takes a back seat to the allure of solving supernatural mysteries, especially her own.

A hero on a quest to slay the demon king storms into the enemy castle only to find that the king… is actually a lovely, busty (and very economically-savvy) demon QUEEN. Set against the backdrop of a sweeping fantasy countryside torn by war, their blossoming romance is rooted in a desire to make their world a better place. They’re well-rounded characters who develop a strong connection after numerous adventures, instead of being “star-crossed lovers in a perpetually foggy town.” On top of that, she’s brutally honest and straightforward, and she’s able to casually drop lines like, “I want you, all of you” and “I won’t touch you without your permission” without coming off as a two-bit cougar (she also looks good for being over 100 years old).

[size=16]BONUS: LOVE, CHUNIBYO & OTHER DELUSIONS[/size]
Chunibyo, for those who did not know, is a Japanese slang word for a condition that hits at about the second year of middle school. These pre-teens, caught on the cusp of childhood and adulthood, develop illusions of grandeur, ranging from feigned antisocial behavior, to all-out occult practices.

The main character in Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions, Rikka, certainly thinks the world around her is supernatural, with secret organizations and supercharged ladle-guns. Instead of a tumultuous, wishy-washy, sparkly romance, Rikka and the passionately ANTI-chunibyo, Yuuta, develop a mutual understanding of each other and their feelings.

Time travel isn’t exclusive to 80’s classics. As you know, anime itself has its fair share of time-traveling adventures. Let’s take a look at some action anime titles that take you on a trip through time to celebrate “Back to the Future” Day.

Just because you drove the weapon into the monster (or gauna’s) body doesn’t mean it’s dead-dead. ALWAYS CHECK THE BODY. Empty your bullets into the corpse. Cut the head off. Do whatever it takes to ensure that the monster is permanently dead. Anime monsters tend to be harder to kill than their Western counterparts.

Anime characters tend to be lucky enough to know SOMEONE with a katana. A sword is much more reliable than a gun. When dealing with anime horror, especially visceral monsters like zombies, simple weapons work best. More importantly: always keep said weapon on your person.

If you are in a horror anime, don’t run on stairs. It’s the universal horror trope: if you run (especially if you’re a girl), you will trip. In anime, with multi-level apartments and schools, there’s an even greater risk of tripping when you happen to be on the stairs. Seriously, “Don’t say we didn’t warn you about the stairs, bro!"

Q. Do you have any titles as of this moment that have been released sub only that you have plans to re release with a dub like you have done in the past?
A. There have been some names floating around. I couldn’t really say with certainty, though, as talk is just talk until it’s put down on paper, but we are always mining for past shows that could get a dub treatment. The best way to try to get a previous show dubbed is to let us know what you would like us to look into further on our social channels. We’re always around and always reading what you guys have to say. :slight_smile:


Q. What new anime are you looking towards licensing next?
A. Anything and everything! Every season we look at all shows available to see what to scoop up. Right now there are a few shows we have our eyes on for the next season…but of course we can’t say what they are now haha. But yeah, we look at every single thing.


Q. Will there be dubs for any licenses of last year?
A. Of course! Soon we will be announcing ███████ as well as ████ ██ █████ and finally ███ █ ███████ █ ████ ███ ██! Hope you enjoy! :wink:


Q. OK first just let me say you guys make the best collector’s edition stuff and also what was your favorite series that you’ve made?
A. Thanks! We are super proud of all of our collector’s edition box sets, we definitely put in the hours to make each one of them as good as possible.

I would say that the Chunibyo box set was one of my favorite series that I got to work on. I didn’t have a speaking role, mind you, but I did get to assist in deciding what all would be in the set itself, along with a lot of the staff here. Believe it or not, that’s how the little things like keychains, postcards, and other odds and ends end up in the set, as a group decision . The reasoning behind that is that we’re all fans and most of us are collectors, so why wouldn’t we ask what a collector would want out of a collector’s edition?

But yeah, definitely Chunibyo S1. :slight_smile:


Q. what is your best horror anime?
A. Best horror anime. Hmmm, there are quite a few, but my favorite is ANOTHER. I guess you could categorize Parasyte as horror…

Wait, I’m changing my vote to Flowers of Evil. If you haven’t seen this, you need to see it…one of the most DISTURBING anime I’ve ever seen, and that’s saying something.


Q. The new simulcast season has started. Around the office, what shows are you guys liking the most so far?
A. The office has kind of emptied out, but right now I’m really enjoying Beautiful Bones, The Perfect Insider, Young Black Jack, and Utawarerumono

High School of the Dead is the story of the zombie apocalypse with plenty of pantsu and ecchi, sprinkled in-between skull smashing and blood splashing. What makes this the perfect to binge watch on Halloween night is the sound track: the music is suspenseful and the screams of the dying are absolutely gut wrenching.

The story in a nutshell: head splitting alien organisms parasitically bond with humans to feed on other humans. Shinichi’s right-hand parasite, Migi, isn’t particularly terrifying, but the other parasites are worth a nightmare. There’s nothing like a good decapitation to put you in the Halloween mood, right?

This one might take the crown for perfect turn-the-lights-off-and-cuddle-a-blanket horror anime. The music is scary, the coloring is creepy, the backgrounds and dialogue are rich in foreshadow, and the second half of the anime gets reminiscent of Final Destination. It gets under your skin in a cool way, and any time there’s a conspiracy going on in a suspiciously dark high school, you already know you should be on your guard. Also, there are dolls. Lots and lots of terrifying dolls.

Pet Shop of Horrors debuted in 1999, and the series is short enough to binge watch all four episodes on Halloween night. The first episode pretty much sets it up: a creepy, mysterious pet shop owner sells… “pets”. Said “pets” come with strings attached, and once the buyer signs a contract, the pet shop is resolved of responsibility should anything bad happen. Of course, (very) bad things happen, and it’s hard to think of rabbits the same way again.

That’s right - that nostalgic (or just messy) style of art often circulates around this time of year, and this time it could help you win BIG.

We don’t use all caps for nothing; it really is our most EPIC prize of the year (well…so far)! The winning turkey hand creator will receive a Bounty Basket with the following Premium Box Sets:
