Sunday Without God/Kamisama no Inai Nichiyōbi

Super impressed with this series.

This was a fun little series.

I’m glad to see Sentai starting to make some more actual trailers for shows; most shows are not best promoted by their OP. Chris Ayres narrating the trailer was pretty funny.

Unfortunately I wasn’t the biggest fan of this show after episode 3 as it went from being an interesting show in its own right to being a show that lived in the shadow of Kino’s Journey. It could also be called the anime adaptation of the Highlander movie :frowning:

Like Celestial, I was disappointed by this series after the third episode. I was perhaps expecting too much but it just seemed to fall flat. The story arcs seemed mediocre and a bit forced.

About Sunday Without God

Fifteen years ago on a Sunday, God abandoned the world and closed the gate to Heaven, leaving the souls of humankind trapped in limbo. With the dead unable to rest and the living unable to have children, the world is slowly coming to a halt. The only key to mankind’s salvation rests with the Gravekeepers, mysterious beings charged with the task of sending the deceased to their final resting place.

Twelve-year-old Ai, one of the last children in the world, soon finds herself shouldered with the burden of becoming her village’s newest Gravekeeper. But beneath the village’s unassuming exterior lies a dark secret that is revealed with the arrival of a gun-wielding stranger in black. With her position as a Gravekeeper now uncertain, Ai has no choice but to set out to put the living dead to rest. But in a world where no one can die, is death truly the ultimate blessing?

Hopefully this won’t be too jarring. I can’t say that I recall if there’s a need for the same actor to play each part (eg:Kelly Manison in Excel Saga).

Sentai booked Funi’s “Cherami 2.0” for a role? That’s pretty cool.

While I had fun watching this at the time, it’s kind of a forgetful series to me.
I don’t really remember much about it other than the general concept.

I wonder if watching the dub will help solidify it more in memory.
The cast looks good, but since I don’t remember much of it, I really can’t place the characters, especially by name.

Under my “it’s a Sentai dub” rule, I’ll be checking this one out but I know where you’re coming from with the series being forgetful as I didn’t find much of what happened after ep 3 to be particularly memorable.

The similar Kino’s Journey, on the other hand…

Sentai, I’ve gotta disagree with that.

Saw eps 1-3 of the dub (despite the bluray’s best efforts) and I enjoyed it. The dub definitely made Hambart into a more solid, more relateable character. He’s still a punk, make no mistake, but his circumstances are better articulated through the dub and I can respect him more after the dub due to that.

This dub made the show stronger, it took a bad show and made it better. That’s what it’s all about.
