The Outlander Memorial Thread

And now, some music for the radio show. BTW I’m in love with the dancer with the short blond hair

Welcome back, this is the Newshawk… Now, let’s slip into something a little more comfortable… Like a “New Your State of Mind”…

That was Billy Joel, from his “Live in Tokyo” album… from Japan to France, now, as we drop in on Feist in Paris, with “Gatekeeper”…

and finally, two great musicians, one fabulous piece of music-Carlos Santana and Gato Barberi as they give their shared interpretations of “Europa”…

Stay with us… there’s more to come, right after this short pause for the cause… This is the Newshawk, Straight on till Dawn, only on KTAN…

Calling in to the show just to render an opinion

I think Anime’s best years were from 1990-1995

I also think that Gainax was the best until the staff became drug addicts

So I have a question I would like to pose to the listeners tonight, especially the “senior” members who are tuning in. Is it just me, or does it seem that some of the newer members have brought a certain nastiness and negativity with them? I started coming to TAN because it was a refuge from sites like ANN where posters are often rude and name calling is quite common. The atmosphere was much more laid back and the people were generally much nicer.

It seems that’s been changing some lately. Posters have become more argumentative. The threat of having threads locked seems to be getting made more often. Some new poster have even showed up and starting making threats and demands, such as Anime Network rerunning an entire show that their carrier dropped the ball on or they were going to petition to have the entire channel removed.

There definitely seems to be just an increase in nastiness and it’s really getting to me. I know we’ve had our share of complainers and flare ups in the past, for instance Coffee and I have butted heads before, but I don’t ever remember it being like this. I’m sure the VOD switchover caused some of it, but with most of the issues resolved, I was hoping that would die down a bit.

I am hoping that it is because TAN is becoming more popular, thus the sad side affect of bringing more of that crowd in. Lets try to encourage more good posters to keep posting, or at least rational posters.

Agree with Redshirt1. Actually this is why forums have Moderators to police that sort of thing. Unfortunately TAN doesn’t have any. None of them bother to show up to do their jobs. Even Slowhand has cut back on her appearance here.

I have to agree with just about everything said up to this point, also I think it’s partly a product of the times we are living in. More and more people are stressed to the limit, and it results in much greater contentiousness. There also seems to be an “entitlement mentality” where people think that for whatever reason they deserve whatever it is they think they should have for whatever reason on slight they feel they have suffered.

True that, Newshawk… ah, Kids today… and they still trample my lawn

I’m not sure if its people under stress, more members or a combination. The other main forum I frequent has also been real nasty lately. I have mostly lost any real desire to argue online.

I have to agree with the entitlement thing. I don’t know where that started or how it came about, but it really pisses me off. It’s not even relatively new, as I see it a lot in people my age and older. I’m almost 30 FYI.

I just don’t understand how people feel they are entitled to have something just because it exists. People just don’t want to work for things anymore. There is also no common decency or sense of respect for anyone anymore. It just seems to keep getting worse.

I have to wonder if the constant exposure to media (TV, the internet, etc) doesn’t have something to do with it. News channels and sites seem to intentionally rile people up. They turn what would have been relatively minor issues that would have been ignored into national crises. Even politics seems nastier than it was. Everything is so nasty and partisan that our politicians can’t accomplish anything other than blaming the other side for all the problems.

I don’t remember this!?

However, if we did, I’m sure I was probably at fault.
I do tend to get snarky from time to time.

Though I do have to agree, some of these new “people” remind me of a lot of ANN frequenters.
Especially the ones that just absolutely refuse to read what was posted because their opinion is the only one that seems to matter.

Well, I hope you’re not lobbing me into that category… LOL. I just stopped by, and had to post in about this last topic… hope I’m not intruding. Even though I am new here, obvious by the post count, I would like to think that I have not disrespected anyone. I may be young… however I come from a background that was founded on old school rules regarding respect and common courtesy. Of course, it does not seem to be so “common” anymore.

And no, it is not just you that has noticed this latest trend everywhere. I do completely agree with you on the point that things seem to be getting nastier. You’ve seen me post in this thread regarding the various VOD issues, and it has got really nasty there at times. I’m still not getting any TAN content, but have tried to exercise reason and common sense by not lashing out blindly. I just wish that was true for everyone in my boat regarding frustration.

Just one final word… I’m sure a few of you have played Xbox recently… what self proclaimed Otaku doesn’t play games, right? Anyway, things have gotten extremely disrespectful there. It always has been a rough ride, however people just don’t have any, and I mean any, respect anymore. The whole entitlement thing is very true in that regard. I always say to people like that, “Awww, did you have a bad day, and you need to take it out on someone else… you poor thing.” The “good game everyone” days are dead.
