People still watch TV shows live?! The last time I tried that was at a con hotel and I couldn’t take it. DVR withdrawal: it sucks.
Please let me know if this new season is expecting a mature audience to be viewing it, and/or if the they remember that the theme song was an integral part of the original series and put it back in. Even CBS figured that out with Hawaii 5-0.
H5-0 is also 45 min. long, minus commercials, so they’ll still have enough time for storytelling. Animation on the other hand is 22-25 min., they can use the min. or 2 reserved the op. for setting the ep. up instead.
They prob save money on music costs as well, I’m assuming.

Virtually every anime ever has both an opening and ending theme with time enough to tell their stories.
This morning’s episode made me laugh so much at Lion-O’s awkwardness with Pumyra.
Man, why can’t WB put it out on BD. Same goes for Young Justice and Green Lantern. These are such sweet, sweet shows.

The season, and possibly the series, ending for the 80’s toy/toon revival
Thundercats “What Lies Above (part 2)” airs Saturday, June 16th at 9:30 a.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network. It’s the conclusion to this season of the Studio 4°C (Tekkon Kinkreet) animated 80’s toy/toon revival and given, Cartoon Network’s conspicuous silence on where the series might fit into 2013 plans, it’s widely assumed that this is also the curtain call for the new Thundercats.
A brief look at what to expect from the episode:
If this is the end, are you sorry to see the new Thundercats go?
They may later on. Doubtful though since WB seems to be in the whole cartoons are for kids deal and kids can’t afford Blu-ray kick.
I think Thundercats is going to suffer the same fate as Masters of the Universe 2002. Canceled because the toys did not sell. Hopefully keeping Young Justice around is not dependent upon the toys as they stopped making them because Mattel was not seeing good sales.
Looks like ThunderCats is being moved to Toonami.
I wonder if that means we’ll be seeing new episodes soon, or if it’s just going to be reruns of what’s aired already.

Returning “Cowboy Bebop” joins “Sym-Bionic Titan” and new “Thundercats”
Good news for anime fans who still have cable service. Jason DeMarco, VP of strategic marketing for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, revealed on Twitter that starting next week, the Toonami programming block “expands to 6 hours from midnight-6am, without repeating from 3a-6a.”
Also from his Tweets…
I’m happy to announce that we will also be running the great SYM-BIONIC TITAN, and also the great new THUNDERCATS! Also, BEBOP will make it’s return, running from 5a-6a. Finally, this Saturday we’ll start running a new lineup spot that gives you the whole rundown, which will air every night for a whole. Hope this news makes you guys as happy…
We’ve wanted those shows since the beginning. I think Sym-Bionic is Genndy’s best work. Just took a little paperwork For anyone thinking Sym-bionic is not “mature enough,” watch this scene: http://youtu.be/-Nq12k4xM7I … This is advanced storytelling. Genius.
The new Thundercats was animated by anime production house Studio4C, who are also responsible for the new Berserk movies. Sym-Bionic Titan is a mecha homage from Samurai Jacks’s Genndy Tartakovsky.
Are you excited to see these shows run on TV again?
I’d rather see Classic Thundercats on Toonami. It’d be a homage to vintage Toonami (the glorious Moltar years). Also I still haven’t gotten over how they remade Tigra into his polar opposite and made Lion-O more of an immature kid than he was in the original (despite him being “older” in the new version). There’s also a strong dose of the “female chars can only be ‘strong’ when the male characters are weak” BS that plagues too many modern cartoons/shows/movies. It’s not to Kim Possible levels of BS (Lion-O and Tigra are competent) but it doesn’t have equality at all. 1 step forward, 2 steps back…
Would someone kindly explain how that clip shows how Sym-bionic Titan is “mature enough” and exhibits advanced storytelling?
Honestly, if they want to show that, I think they’d do us all a better service by showing instead one of the many anime series which feature cheesy giant robots fighting aliens, shows that have readily apparent maturity, more advanced storytelling, and art that isn’t below that of the original eSurance commercials (and also dubbed by ADV ).

Q:
Will Thundercats be getting a replacement after it is finished?
A:
Thundercats will re-run once it’s finished.
Guess they’re happy enough with the numbers to repeat.
I’d be happier if they decide to make a season 2.
Looks like no more ThunderCats on Toonami.
Well, we got backdoored again…
So the surprise has been pre-exploded. Here’s the deal.
July 20th will be the last night of The Thundercats. We’re losing the rights. Also that will be the last night of Sym-Bionic Titan for a little while. It’ll be back for sure.
Two-disc set to be released November 11th
October 29, 2014 2:48pm CDT
Warner Archive has set a November 11th release date for the complete Blu-ray collection of the 26 episode, 2011-12 reboot of Thundercats… though some fans are raising their eyebrows about the “complete” label given what’s been regarded as an abbreviated run. The two-disc sets are selling for $29.99.
Studio 4°C, the anime studio behind the Berserk movies and TekkonKinkreet, worked with Warner Bros. Animation on the series, adjusting the style as well as producing the animation for the update of the '80s animated toy tie-in.
The ThunderCats are back! A generation after becoming beloved animation icons, the mighty survivors of Thundera returned for a bold, new re-imagining that mixed the best of the past with the boldness of the new. After the destruction of the cat civilization of Thundera by the evil Mumm-Ra, young Prince Lion-O leads a small band of survivors to safety. As the threats of Mumm-Ra ring in their ears, these determined cats know what they must do: find the Book of Omens. Using his powerful Sword of Omens, Lion-O guides his friends, facing vicious foes and making fantastic new allies while racing towards a showdown with Mumm-Ra. Now all 26 episodes are available in “sight beyond sight” 1080p HD on Blu-ray Disc as they were meant to be seen. So get ready to rip into the action with Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro, Snarf, Cheetara, Wily Kit, Wily Kat and hear the battle cry of “ThunderCats Ho!” once again, for the very first time!
In principle, I don’t want to see series fail to get physical releases. That said, if that had been the case with this, I wouldn’t have been too broken up about it.
Yup, all ready pre-ordered my copy.
I’ve been slowly re-watching the original series, and I gotta say:
“Man, what a chore.”
“Wait…what! How the hell are you breathing AND falling down in outer space?”
“Ah come on! Just call on the sword like you did last episode.”
“How is she (Mandora) breathing in space?”
“Ahhhhhh…F this.” watches something else.
Except for the theme song, I haven’t seen any of the original series in a long, long time.
Maybe I should, I’m pretty sure I never saw all of it back in “the day”. Or I could just keep letting it live on in nostalgia-land lol.
if all 130 episodes looked as good as the intro, maybe I’d be able to forget the many not-so-great parts; just swim in the visual goodness.
130 episodes?! That’s almost 3x what DBZ had*, so I’m almost certain that I was never able to see them all back in “the day”.
