TV Legends: Did James Lipton Really Write the Thundercats Theme Song?
March 3, 2017
finally finished the second box set.
yes, thatâs rightâŠfinally. That should say just how well this show has aged.
love the concept, the worlds they inhabit, the character designsâŠ
the in your face social morality, the WTF moments, the sanitizing of sword n sorcey/planet tropesâŠnot so much
as you can see, not a geewunner here.
now to start box 3âŠmaybe tomorrowâŠ

Itâs Teen Titans Go! All over again.
But thatâs how the majority of kid cartoons nowadays are: comedic with a simpler line style design.
I really wanted to believe that this new Thundercats was a joke, a late April Fools.
Instead of taking a series that had solid, realistic art and doing this to it, why not make a new cartoon that has this artsyle from the get-go?
Honestly, this kind of low-effort art that commandeered American cartoons is what got me into anime in the first place.
âŠwhen is the original 80s series coming to bluray?
As someone who actually plays D&D where the termâs wide use was popularized, there are things i canât say on this forum in response to that statement of yours. however there are some things i CAN sayâŠ
Questions being asked for MANY years lately are simply why can these âcreativeâ people, not actually create something?
Why is it they can take an established property while it still lives thanks to modern technology and think that LIVING fans will look the other way when something is completely turned into something else?
Why do they need to take something well known to make into something else? again, just create something new?
If you are going to take an established property, especially one with a fanbase, then be ready for them to call you out, because they still have rights too. Rights to speak with their wallets. Rights to not let their kids watch this sort of Tumblrcats dross that everything is with its lazy art and humor that is even too low-brow for Saturday Night Live.
âRetroâ was âcoolâ in the 90s to bring back the 60s-70s because the vinyl was worn out, the celluloid was wearing out, etc. but since the 80s, the technology to preserve these things has evolved and the original is still around.
Oh, millennial snowflakes want to comment about how the original is still around so the old fans can go watch it and let the kids have this new thing. there is the problem, the new thing isnt needed then, because the new fans can also go watch the old thing. MLP worked to update to sell toys and bring the washed out look of original MLP up to date. original MLP i might not looks LESS washed out than TumblrCats ROAR. Oceanâs 11 was a good update, though not fully faithful, it just wouldnât make since watching the original with the Rat Pack coming back form a war, when there was no world war to have to contend with at the time it came out. Oceanâs 8⊠Ghostbusters 2016⊠why? another case of just being lazy and taking something else to tell bad jokes with.
Anime, you know the thing this forum is actually about⊠the ANIME network, shows how you can update while being dumb, and not be totally insulting to fans of a property that should be your main source of advertising via word of mouth for things that are coming out. Reboot the Guardian Code remaking Code Lyoko and the failed Zixx is NOT how to update a property with a fanbase. Neither is Thundercats + Ok K.O.
not everyone can make something new and it be a success, see Ron Howard and Kathleen Kennedy Soylo: A SJ Wars Story.
if it wasnât for those âgrognardsâ you wouldnât have anything today to rip-off; and with the creativity level of ZERO that these people have to keep churning out clone/reboot/remakes everything into 1 or 2 styles, you wouldnât have anything at all.
screw [sic] with the bull, you are going to get the horns.

last time I checked, itâs WBâs propertyâŠso they can do anything they want with it.
youâre right: donât like the direction, donât see it.
WHAT! You mean the original Thundercats wasnât a mishmash of Star Wars, King Arthur, Flash Gordon, John Carter of Mars, Seven SamuraiâŠI did not know that. Thanks for the heads up.
hopefully never. A lot of the episodes are uglyâŠespecially the last season: LunataksâŠugh.
as i said, if it werenât for the fans that made these properties popular to begin with you would have nothing,
Will the AT&T purchase of Time Warner put an end to this tumblrcats nonsense?
I hope so.
If they rights holders are still itching to make some easy money from the property, IMO making a 4K+ scan of the original series and releasing it on bluray would turn a quick buck on the cheap.
Shoot, just releasing the original series on SD Bluray could be an even cheaper way to make a lesser-but-significant chunk of change.
I saw that yesterday .
Edit looks like amazon just has not listed it yet .
DVD? Câmon, itâs 2019, bluray or bust.
Though itâs at least a small win that it is on physical media at all, and not exclusive to some streaming service (that probably streams at <= DVD quality anyhowâŠ)
do you really think they could update it to 4k and such for Blu-Ray really? all BR players should play DVDs
Sure, just run the source material through a scanner, Iâve heard that some bargain-brand bluray publishers have been producing new masters, even Funimation was scanning in old film (until they got bored and dropped the project).
Even if they didnât rescan the video, releasing the SD content on a bluray (like what Sentai is now doing with Princess Resurrection) has benefits: sturdier discs, fewer discs required, and the video quality could still improve just because the blu-ray encoding scheme is newer (eg: reduced artifacts, better colors).
What would worry me about most of the American 80âs and probably 70âs animated shows if they tried to remaster is they lost or destroyed the film sources . Most only have tape broadcast masters left and they donât really lend to a easy restoration . I do agree they need to start releasing stuff on Blu-Ray even if itâs a direct SD transfer ,but with Warner your talking about the same company that does not even release most of its modern animated TV series stuff on BD . You would think BD would be more kid friendly with the scratch resistance.
