Sorry for the short notice, but we’re losing the rights to Inuyasha after this weekend, so starting Saturday 3/8 we’re replacing it with Symbionic Titan at 5:30a. Also Daylight Saving Time is 3/8, so we’re losing one hour JUST FOR THAT NIGHT. Soul Eater will not be affected, so Black Lagoon is still set to premiere on 3/22. GITS and FMAB will return as regularly scheduled on 3/15.
There was definitely some chatter about this so it’s great to see an AoT confirmation at last from Toonami. As far as the schedule goes, it does make sense to kick off with premieres vs. a rerun to keep the numbers up. On the other hand, I also didn’t expect Space Dandy to move at all. That did come as a surprise.
It should be interesting to see how this recent schedule shake-up effects ratings with AoT starting and Naruto Shippuden/One Piece moving down a half hour each.
“Beware the Batman” Joins Toonami May 10th
As if the news of Attack on Titan joining the Toonami lineup wasn’t enough for you, Toonami came back with more. In a very odd and stunning move, Toonami announced via Twitter that the Cartoon Network series Beware the Batman will be joining the block May 10th at 3am ET, a week after Attack on Titan‘s anticipated premiere. Due to this switch, the original Naruto series will be moved down to 3:30am ET, and Ghost in the Shell will be leaving the block.
Beware the Batman has had a troubled history, from being pulled off Cartoon Network’s line-up last October after episode 11′s airing, episodes 12 and 13 making their debuts on an officially released DVD of Season 1 Part 1 back in February, and episodes of the show being aired in advanced in New Zealand (heck the entire show was just recently leaked onto Amazon UK!).
It has been confirmed by Cartoon Network that all 26 episodes will be shown by Toonami. This marks the 5th American program to hit the block since its revival in 2012.
The new schedule can be found below:
•11:30pm - Attack on Titan
•12am – Bleach
•12:30am – Space Dandy
•1am – Naruto: Shippuden
•1:30am – One Piece
•2am – Blue Exorcist
•2:30am – Black Lagoon
•3am – Beware the Batman
•3:30am – Naruto
•4am – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
•4:30am – Samurai Jack
•5am – Star Wars: The Clone Wars
•5:30am – Sym-Bionic Titan
This is beyond good news. Toonami saved this show from the darkness that CN pitched it in. Our heroes! :cheer:
So now May’s really looking good.
I too am wondering why they put this Batman show into the anime block and deposed an anime to do it. Why not put it on the American block and depose Clone Wars? That show is far to childish for a late night cartoon block, it is closer to Nick Jr level programming; if it had been around in the time of Face then I could really see him announcing it “bur burr burrr!”
This batman series even has the same wonky CG animation style used in clone wars. Perfect to swap in for swcw.
Of course, they could make up for this by getting some Sentai anime on there or by getting a greater variety of Viz stuff. What happened poor ole Death Note? Would samurai jack really beat out samurai champloo?
“Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge” Airing May 24th on Toonami
The Dragon Ball Z fans finally got what then wanted…sort of. Announced on Funimation’s Tumblr page, the Dragon Ball Z movie “Cooler’s Revenge” will be airing on Toonami on May 24th at Midnight ET/PT.
Although it is a movie presentation, the movie only runs for an hour, pre-empting only Bleach and a re-run of Space Dandy. All other premieres and shows are scheduled to air on that night.
