Glitch report for DirecTV from California 92411

It was mentioned that Yuki Yuna ep. 11 didn’t have it’s proper opening. So I watched it and made the following notes:

Yuki Yuna ep. 11: no intro, glitches somewhere within the minutes of 6, 9, 19, no outro.

Also, I noticed I had received a duplicate of this episode and it had both intro/outro and played just fine.

Extra note: I found that I hadn’t received Cardfight ep. 20 along with the others I mentioned in an earlier post. Will report if they arrive.

First off, welcome @WheretheSnakesReign. Always good to see another DirecTV user around.

Now. Here’s a snapshot of what my DTV has looked like for the last 4 weeks.

  1. I didn’t monitor any of the following series, so I can’t tell you anything about: Run With the Wind, Tsukipro The Animation 2, Utano ☆Prince-sama - Maji Love Revolutions or Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto.
  2. Programs appeared for the most part without problems. Most of those that did have problems appeared to have been corrected over time.
    a. Cardfight! Vanguard overDress 18 (from Oct. 6) originally downloaded a blank episode. It looks OK now.
    b…Cardfight! Vanguard overDress 20 (from Oct. 20) has not yet been delivered. At least, I can’t see it.
    c. Yuki Yuna is a Hero 11 (from Oct. 6) originally had a missing intro/outro and skips at the 9-, 12-, and 20-minute marks. Sometime over the last weekend, a clean second copy of this episode was uploaded. Both copies of this episode are available for download. The only difference I can discern between the two (without watching them) is that the glitch-free version runs one minute longer - 25 minutes vs 24.
    d. Saiyuki RELOAD ZEROIN 11 (from Oct. 13) has not yet been delivered. At least, I can’t see it.
    e. Outburst Dreamer Boys 2 (from Oct. 20) originally downloaded a blank episode. It looks OK now.

TL/DR version: The only outstanding problems requiring attention at this point are two missing episodes - Cardfight! Vanguard overDress 20 (from Oct. 20) and Saiyuki RELOAD ZEROIN 11 (from Oct. 13).

  2. Cinderella Nine, episode 4 appears on the list, but a blank screen appears when I attempt to play it.

As for “old business”, Cardfight! Vanguard overDress 20 (from Oct. 20) and Saiyuki RELOAD ZEROIN 11 (from Oct. 13) remain missing from the list of available content.

I’m finding it extremely fascinating that when Spectrum users report no intro on an episode, DirecTV are the ones who get the fix.

Just wondering…

  1. When did Spectrum users start reporting this? And, is it happening with other FOD systems? It seems like I’ve had these issues for a couple of years now, and until recently I thought it was exclusively a DTV issue. And, I’m probably off-base with this, but it seems to me like there really hadn’t been much action over the last couple of years on resolving the issue until other system’s users started reporting.
  2. Has there been any indication as to where the problem is occurring (TAN vs Middleman vs DTV/Spectrum/other cable-sat systems)? If the problem is lying between the Middleman and the cable/sat systems, perhaps DTV is acting as beta-testers for the prospective fix, with Spectrum and others to come later? Or, worst-case, could there be different problems at the DTV and Spectrum interfaces that result in the same end result? If so, the solution for DTV might not work for Spectrum.
    Troubleshooting can be such fun…

I didn’t realize how much it was happening until you started reporting on it. I don’t watch my OnDemand anymore, but I still go in to make sure episodes are showing up.

Once I realized it wasn’t getting attention, I started to look at the episodes to see if they had intros/outros, but still wasn’t watching the full episodes to see if there were glitches.

I had a couple of Spectrum users who would report if they saw glitches, but weren’t watching all the episodes.

Now, I report these in two different ways:

  • No intro/outro, unknown # of glitches
  • No intro/outro with glitch notations

And no, I’ve never gotten any indication about where the problem is coming from.
AN says they send every episodes with intros, Providers say all their episodes have intros, but we all know better than that.

Presuming they’re not flat-out lying, they’re spot-checking, just like we are. None of us are watching every single episode from end-to-end, unless specifically asked to do so. But I dare say that my sample size is considerably larger than DTV’s, in that I usually follow all but about 3 or 4 series at any given time, depending on whether I’ve seen the series before or whether I’m disinterested in the genre. The problem is that I can’t keep up a schedule to properly notify y’all when I see stuff.

The thing with this is, if I tell them that one episode has no intro, that’s the episodes they should check. Not anything else. But hey, that’s just me.

I disagree about not checking anything else. In fact, it’s possible that they’re doing exactly what you’re saying they ought to do. Here’s why - I don’t recall series with either entire missing eps or missing intros/skips happening across consecutive episodes for a while now, so maybe they are checking those series - and missing the other instances in that week’s content where the problems pop up.
Of course, all this presumes that any checking is going on at all. When you consider how many on-demand channels DTV offers, it’s hard to visualize them doing much Quality Control work on individual channels, much less down to the program level…

DirecTV Indiana 46544 - update as of 10/29/22, approx 2200 EDT

Cinderella Nine, episode 4 no longer displays a black screen after download, and is now playable. A bit of weirdness - I downloaded the episode Friday and got a several minutes of black screen when I tried to play it - same as happened Thursday. However, this time I didn’t delete the episode, and left it on my DTV hard drive overnight. It played flawlessly on Saturday night without having to re-download. It is a puzzlement, but I’ll take it.

That leaves only Legend of Heroes ~ Trails in the Sky OVA missing from the 10/27 list of available content.

Cardfight! Vanguard overDress 20 (from Oct. 20) and Saiyuki RELOAD ZEROIN 11 (from Oct. 13) remain missing from the list of available content.

Most of the episodes I was expecting have arrived. And all of them have the proper intros. Though, I’ve fallen quite behind in watching anything I’m unsure if there are any glitches within these seemingly fine episodes (I do remember the rare occasion where episodes with intros had a skip, but that was months past).

And currently, Cinderella 9 ep. 4 is a black void but I’m assuming it will fix itself much like @thboyd29 stated in their report.
