You know, I got my current car on Feb 28 last year. Did you know I just noticed the fuel gauge tells you which side you put the nozzle in last Wednesday? I’m curious to know what other random stuff I’ll discover about this car I should have noticed already.
Here’s a question for you:
What type of woman do you consider to be a Femme Fatale? I’ve recently been watching something where a character was described that way and I don’t really think it’s a good indicator of this woman.
Here's a definition I found
A femme fatale is a stock character of a mysterious and seductive woman whose charms ensnare her lovers, often leading them into compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations. She is an archetype of literature and art. Her ability to entrance and hypnotize her victim with a spell was in the earliest stories seen as being literally supernatural; hence, the femme fatale today is still often described as having a power akin to an enchantress, seductress, vampire, witch, or demon, having power over men.
I don’t want to name the show in question yet, because I want unbiased answers.
Could you name some actresses/characters who you think fit the bill?
Anyone help me out?
I’d say Minami in Oreimo, to use an anime character. She convinced Kyosuke to not really try in life, rather to take it easy. This caused him to fail in Kirino’s eyes and eventually lead to this:
She’s a very mild seeming girl, but she was a femme fatale regardless in that she had power over Kyosuke.

what, Minami a femme fatale?
yeah, NO. How dare she think incest is wrong. Doesn’t she now we’re in the 2k’s,
and her…
perfect for Toonami…eh…eh…
too many liberties nowadays with definitions…
Well I was trying to play against the stereotype, and Minami fills that bill.
One thing I’ve learned is that you don’t have to look like a Vampire to suck the life out of someone.
Mark Gosdin
you can look like a “kawai” little sister…
if anyone, she’s the one that turned out to be the ‘femme fatale’
Quite true, there is no rule about their being only one femme fatale in a given stituation.
Oreimo went from a cute story that teased / toyed with being a bit weird to full on train wreck. So, I ignore the second season as much as possible.
Mark Gosdin
When I think femme fatale, I think Lust from FMA, CC from Code Geass, or Jessica Rabbit from Roger Rabbit (granted, she was “just drawn that way”).
There were tons in the old Hollywood movie days too. Rita Hayworth in Gilda, Lana Turner in Postman Always Rings Twice, or Gene Tierney in Leave her to Heaven, to name a few. Lauren Bacall and Ingrid Bergman played some good ones too.
I think even Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd. or Glen Close in Fatal Attraction could count by definition. I also vote for all the Catwoman characters ever. Dangerous Liaisons / Cruel Intentions had a doozy of a femme fatale. Have you seen Dangerous Beauty? That was a good one too.
I know there are more in anime besides the ones mentioned in the above posts. Besides those, I would also go with Esdeath, or the girl in Future Diary, or even Faye Valentine could count. There is usually one found in almost every anime.
There are plenty in real life too when you look at the scandal sheets. I am now very curious about the character in what you are watching!
Checking in . Things going ok . Even though laid off at the moment ,busy selling excess stuff trying to keep money coming in .
IMO the Bantorra lead wouldn’t be a femme fatale as she’s brash and a brawler. I’d say that the FF is mysterious, sophisticated and sultry, someone who uses wiles and leverage more than violence to get what she wants, though if she resorts to violence, it is refined and ruthless.
To boil it down, IMO it’s not enough for a female character to have a guy wrapped around her finger to make her a femme fatale, there has to be a certain style about how she does it. Perhaps my definition has been warped by too many old movies though
I’d definitely second FMA’s Lust for the archetyppe.
to me a femme fatale is just that, a fatal woman - an attractive woman who brings nothing but trouble to those around her, usually her lover/significant other but can included those who trust her. That trouble could be fatal, whether physically, financially, or morally.
She’s mysterious, keeps her secrets close to her chest/heart (hur, hur…
), and willing to use others for her own means. Styles come and go but manipulative women stay the same…
I’ve been watching the original Mission: Impossible (1966-73) on Amazon Instant Video. There are seven seasons and I’m currently on Season 5.
The first three seasons, Barbara Bain starred as Cinnamon Carter
The fourth season didn’t have a female regular, just guest stars.
Season 5 introduced us to “Femme Fatale” Dana Lambert, played by Lesley (Ann) Warren.

Am I wrong? Is this person not a Femme Fatale, but more of an ingénue?
@slowhand spot on. I watched all 7 seasons of Mission Impossible when they aired and it seemed to me that Warren was always playing a slightly more idealistic / naive agent than the rest of the cast’s characters. Bain was definitely playing a femme fatale. Note that Bain and Landau were a couple in real life.
Bonus points for Leonard Nimoy in his first post-Trek role as Paris.
Mark Gosdin
I would agree. I have not watched this since the repeats on TV, but I really don’t remember her as a femme fatale. Unless the femme fatale is hiding behind the facade of an ingenue. But no, I would still not refer to her as a femme fatale.

Everything I touch seems to slice up my fingers. Darn packaging.
No project is complete until I’ve managed to bleed on it.
Mark Gosdin
Well I did bleed on a 12 count package of Diet Coke by touching a rather sharp edge. That was a nasty one too.
