I found it odd that Netflix default to subs for me when I watched some anime. At least with their Android apps. I haven’t even seen how it works on the computer yet. (If I still need SliverLight, then I won’t be watching on computer)
Flash has been found to have some 0 day vulnerabilities, it behooves everyone here to use a Flash Blocker or to deactivate Flash in your Browser,
I watch Netflix on my TV and can only get subs (even though in the description of most anime it lists the English dub VAs). I don’t see any way to get to the dubs, if there are any.
I only used the Android app (watched on TV with Chromecast), and I notice there’s a button to switch audio tracks like a DVD/BD. What are you using, maybe I can help point you in the right direction.
I must admit, I’m not too smart about all this.
Watching Netflix through my Blu-ray player, connected to the internet.
Hmm, they can be REALLY out of date in terms of support. It seems for those devices, you need to get the info of the episode you’re going to play, and there should be an audio and subtitles option somewhere (the player I happen to find you hit down until that option comes up), and you can change it there.
There’s also the chance you can hit the audio button to change the audio track (and might need to hit the subtitle button as well. I remember doing that when I couldn’t figure out Sentai’s DVD menu, or was it BD, to switch to sub on something)
All else fails, post the Blu-ray player model.
I’ll do some investigating.
You’re not alone in this as one of my bros who recommended Expelled from Paradise to me after seeing it on Netflix didn’t know there was a dub for it, despite the dub being on Netflix.
On the PC, the audio switcher icon is the one second from the right on the video bar FWIW. BTW, PC definitely still requires Silverlight. Sadly, Netflix on PC is kinda un-convenient for me because of that as it means I can’t-or, at least, don’t know how to-use it with my super cool motion interpolation software.
On streaming, does anyone know if there’s a way to make a “guest password” for Amazon Instant Video? I don’t wanna have to type my Amazon pw into Roku…
What’s going on with Netflix dropping so many shows and movies from its streaming?
One of the reasons that the fam picked up a Netflix account was because they heard it’d let them watch classic TV shows on demand but between last month and this one, those shows are dropping like flies from Netflix streaming (at least 16 shows and 30 movies are leaving). Looking into it, I see the show starring everyone’s favorite iconic California water thief is expiring on July 30…how much can it cost to retain shows that are 20 to 40 years old? Srsly.
Netflix and Prime are converting from places from where I can stream anything to cable channels that just show their own original programming with rotating “reruns” of other stuff.
It’s all about money, Netflix licensed tons of old series for streaming during a period that the studios / networks / producers didn’t have any other options or didn’t really understand what streaming was all about. Now everyone in the building from the Mailroom on up understands streaming and as those show licenses come up they are going to the highest bidder or an affiliated streaming site.
That will work for a while until the users get tired of paying for a lot of different streaming platforms, then the streaming sites will end up combining. So, we will end up with a few mega sites, which is pretty much where we started.

That’s why I post about all the comings and goings from Netflix in the Netflix thread for each upcoming month. They don’t keep everything forever so it can become a panic situation when suddently your favorites aren’t there if you don’t keep up. So when next months info rolls out, I strongly recommend looking at that and watch what you can before it’s gone. I hope that’s been of some help @celestial_being .
The fam is still in their trial month for Netflix and I’m concerned that the removal of the classic shows will cause them to nix their subscription after the month runs out, which will leave 'em with a Roku that isn’t too useful (I’d hook my Amazon Prime to it but I’m not sure how that’d interact with Amazon paid video).
I was hoping that Netflix would help 'em out with their storage crunch on their DVR. For some reason, Verizon limits its modern DVRs to only 2 TB of storage and the older DVR that the fam has is limited to 2.5 TB. The fam has pretty much maxed that out by recording whole seasons of classic TV shows off of the SD classic tv show channels.
If Netflix weren’t nixing these shows, the fam could free up almost half of its DVR space.
I got movies to watch on my DVR (along with some episodes of shows I fell behind on)
And for some reason lately, my phone’s battery has been killed of in the middle of the night. My typical usage allows me to keep it changed with my drive to work, so I don’t need to plug it in at home, but every once in a while, I would wake up to find the batter at 30% instead of its usual 70-80%
Android’s battery usage thing doesn’t show anything I could really blame, top of the list is cell services. My guess, AT&T’s network in my area is being flaky on random nights. I’m curious to know why my dad wants to stick with AT&T so much anyway. I know we switched in the first place because of the iPhone being AT&T only, but that had long since been a reason to stay.
I’ve discovered that you can mirror monitors of different resolutions at the resolution of the highest monitor after all if you use AMD’s Virtual Super Resolution functionality as the GPU will render at the higher and downscale for the lower.
For cell phone providers, I wish Verizon wouldn’t be so stingy but it is hands-down the best provider in my area; T-Mobile can’t even reliably get cellular service, let alone data service, at my residence. If I switched to T-Mobile, I’d wind up like those birds in the current commercial lol.
Just the other way around here, AT&T, T-Mobile & Sprint are all rock solid signals at our house but Verizon no so much. So we all are using T-Mobile right now having switched from AT&T late last year.
You never can tell.

Argh, I had a hell of a time watching stuff today. So it seems Crunchyroll finally drop support for the old Google TV app. Now I don’t have a nice remote to use when I’m in my living room…
In the morning, as I was reading some manga anyway with my tablet, I just chromecasted whatever I watched. Then I went out, and somewhere in the process I put my tablet up on the charger. Anyway, get home, app wasn’t working. Switched to the Wii U app (My god that’s hard to use if you want to use the queue by default…) and I try to watch My Love Story first, but for whatever reason, it was only the first 8 minutes of the show… So I watched other stuff, then I went to get my tablet to watch My Love Story on Chromecast.
Well, if it breaks, now I don’t have to worry about secondary features when I need to buy a new BD player. It will basically be a dust collector like my Google TV will be.
The Hacker Team’s hacked data had a zero day exploit for something in Windows. it resulted in MS releasing a patch last Monday.
I’m curious to know how long we’ll have to deal with zero day exploits because of that one hack. First main one is Flash (which is not simple to fix, and until it’s fixed Firefox is defaulting to not allowing it), and now Fonts in Windows. There may have been more, but nothing too news worthy.
What I found interesting is one of the hackers interviewed on TV said he’s more scared about getting crashed into from somebody texting & driving than his car getting hacked. Speaks volumes about people.
Lol, that it does.
If anybody has it yet, post your thoughts.
