You can skip buying that expensive graphic drawing tablet as long as you’ve got the ubiquitous spreadsheet program and some serious skill.

Yet still no talk of them lowering subscription costs and/or upping the budgets of Netflix original series.

I’m stoked I’ll finally have my own computer soon. I’ve only ever had a laptop to use and while they’re nice to have you can’t upgrade them so I’ve decided to move on. Back in January I set up all the details and specs that I wanted on OriginPC. Hopefully I should have it sometime later this week or next.

Edit: here’s the specs if anyone’s curious.

Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-G

Processors: Intel Core i7 8700K 6-Core 3.7GHz (4.7GHz TurboBoost)

Graphic Cards: Single 11GB ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

Memory: 32GB G.Skill TridentZ 3000MHz (2 X 16GB)

Operating System Drive #1 (Primary): 250GB Samsung 960 Evo PCIe NVMe M.2

That’s going to be a nice machine. What Case & Power Supply are you working with? I’ve assembled a lot of PC’s and it can hurt you if you don’t get a good case & p.s.

Case: Phantek EVOLV

Power Supply: 850 Watt EVGA SuperNOVA G3

OriginPC is building it for me. It costs a bit more but they have good services as well.

Excellent, having them assemble it for you means that it will be working correctly before you get it. Let them do the “Smoke” test. :smiling_imp:

The Best OTA DVRs: 2018 Edition

FEBRUARY 21, 2018

#1517

No longer will you be expected to provide your own external storage to record your shows: sensibly, this model includes 64GB of on-board storage.

A few years ago, I bought the fam a 2 TB external drive for their FiOS DVR (the max size supported). They managed to fill up both that and the internal drive, so 64 GB would be full in a flash.

Our home NAS is 6 TB now - not full yet, with a 4 TB external for backup. Still have a stack of Anime & Live Action disks that need ripping not mention CD’s.

I bought myself a 4 TB external drive a few years ago, never thinking I’d fill up that much space. But I too have dabbled in bluray ripping and 4 TB has become mighty small for that.

I haven’t kept my ear to the ground on the ripping scene to know if UHD bluray has been made rippable yet, but if it is I’ll definitely have to upgrade my storage.

#1521

We’ve no TV that supports UHD and I don’t foresee needing one any time soon. Ripping will come whenever there’s a big enough demand for it, but I’m in no hurry.
