Crunchyroll now has 90 million registered users, 3 million subscribers
AT&T buying WB was and is the worst decion ever.
Now AT&T will be selling WB to Sony.
Watch…
Isn’t AT&T somehow ~150 billion dollars in debt?
I know that Michael Bloomberg said that “If you owe the bank $50,000, you got a problem. If you owe the bank $50 million, they got a problem”, the context being that once the bank lends one party too much then it must keep lending that party even more money forever, but still, how can one company bungle its finances that bigly?
I’ve also heard that to get your MBA you have to give up your common sense. Paying over 1 billion dollars for Crunchyroll does not contest that. Sony is paying Crunchy ~$392/subscriber. How many years would a person have to be subscribed to Crunchy before he has paid $392 in subscription fees?
Hmm, when did we take the anti-trust and anti-monopoly laws off of the books? My understanding was that we only begrudgingly tolerated monopolies if they were natural monopolies? Oh well, hail corporate I guess.
Only ones that seems excited is the companies involved. Most of the fans are …

Currently Crunchy has 3 tiers:
Fan: $7.99/month
Mega Fan: $9.99/month
Ultimate Fan: $14.99/month
Going by those rates, the amount of time to equate to $392 is as follows:
Fan: 49 Months, or 4 Years, 1 Month
Mega Fan: 39 Months, or 3 Years, 3 Months
Ultimate Fan: 26 Months, or 2 Years, 2 Months
Now, this is only payment between the consumer and Crunchyroll. These calculations do not include taxes and licensing fees for series, nor does it include anyone grandfathered in on one of the old cheaper plans.
Does this deal have anything to do with VRV by chance? Like is it CR that’s being sold and the parent company is not, or is VRV part of the deal but none of the news articles are talking about it?
Wikipedia has this for VRV:
| Parent | Otter Media (sale to Sony/Funimation pending) |
On December 9, 2020, Funimation and Sony, its owner, announced the former’s acquisition of Crunchyroll, the owner of the VRV brand, for $1.175 billion.[18]
So it is Otter Media to look out for.
It’s amazing CR went from being an illegal hub of anime to being sold for a billion dollars. Absolutely wild.
