I know it was, and that’s what they mean, but that’s not what the subtitles are saying.

They’re saying it’s a Panzer III with an assault gun. Seeing as an assault gun isn’t any type of gun, but rather an entire armored vehicle, I think that description is wrong.

Alright, so I just finished watching episode 10.5 (the recap episode), and I have to say not only was it really interesting, it made me laugh, and here’s why…

Gomoyo’s (the B1 bis driver) favorite tank, is the TOG II. Now, those of you who don’t know anything about tanks, and especially don’t play the online game World of Tanks, don’t know what the TOG II is, and why it’s hilarious…

THIS is the TOG II…

33 feet long, 10 feet wide, and 10 feet high.
This thing is absolutely massive… just a little smaller than the Maus. The World of Tanks community has begun making fun of this thing’s massive size, and its interesting shape. Some say it looks like a banana, some say a battleship, or an aircraft carrier. This is what the TOG II looks like in World of Tanks:

You’ll notice this particular one says “Leopold” on it.

These big screens are actually mounted on the base of a Krupp K5 28cm (280mm) railway gun:

This particular K5 is one of two surviving guns. It was pieced together from two separate guns which were named Robert, and Leopold (or Anzio Annie and Anzio Express by the Allies). They were used to shell the Anzio beachhead. They were both damaged. Once they were captured, they were sent back to the US and combined together to make the one working gun, which is pictured here… there is one other K5 on display in France.

I have a feeling that Miho is going to have to make a similar choice in the finale, that she made which caused her team to lose the previous year, the whole point of the anime has been “What’s more important, your friends or winning?” So I think she’ll choose to save her friends again and will lose the match, but win the war, so to speak.

I wonder if when this series is finally released on DVD, if the 8th episode will still be “censored” like it is… The section that’s cut out kind of makes the episode great.
