newshawk regarding your thing to me in that other topic, that’s just how I feel about her coming from reading the manga into to this. Well anyway you’ll see what I mean by it as the show goes on. wrote this here because other topic wasn’t for discussion.
I see, Amagi. I have not read the manga, so you have me at a disadvantage. Remember, however, that the producers and writers don’t always have the anime follow the manga so I guess we’ll both see how they develop her character as the series goes on.
BTW, welcome to the forums!
I suppose that is true, so yes we shall see, and ty ^^
Having the only two survivors at the observatory be exes-and to have the the guy have to kill his ex-girlfriend’s new love, who is also his best friend-that was a masterstroke! I can’t wait until next Sunday to see how they get down from there.
I thought it was a little odd how quickly Takashi and Rei hooked up, right after Hisashi’s death. I guess it’s pretty common in action shows like this, though the fact that Rei and Takashi made a vow to get married kinda makes up for that. GUESS I’M JUST A FAM’LY MAN.
Shock and fear will do that to you, Hentai. I didn’t see it as sexual or even romantic-I saw it as the need for human contact at a time of sheer terror. I don’t think they have “hooked up” in any sense of the term-nor will they for a good long while.
Yeah, it definitely seemed like the product of needing a companion during a time of chaos, so “hooking up” is too extreme a word in this case. She seemed a little reluctant to follow him at first, perhaps in fear that Takashi would see it as her being interested in him.
Was it in fear of Takashi misreading her actions or fear of the man who just killed the man she loved? Even though it was for a good reason, even though it was to protect her, it’s a very scarring event she just went through. Let’s face it-this is going to be one wild ride!
You may be right. It could have been anger, or a lot of other things. But the act of killing her boyfriend-even if a mercy killing-is still going to be a factor coloring this relationship for the entire series, I bet.
This is so much better than I was hoping for. It was suspenseful and creepy and there were a few genuine scares in it. The action and animation were great! I know some people were worried that the blood and gore might be toned down in this, like Madhouse did for Princess Resurrection, but I’m glad to see they were wrong. There was definitely plenty of blood in this first episode.

Hisashi becomes a zombie, how the background music is very reminiscent of 28 Days/Weeks Later as well as the wall of missing people in the end credits.
Tonka, I noticed that as well. It’s got some definite homages to various zombie movies, and I love that! Madhouse did some great work on this one. I’m not sold on the ED yet, but I like the OP and the background music is absolute perfection.
I also though the random panty shots in the middle of a zombie battle were pretty damn funny. I couldn’t help but laugh, but I was giddy through out the entire awesomeness of this episode.
I do have one question. Does anyone know if TAN is streaming a TV edit of this series? I’m asking because I’ve noticed some slight differences between the promo video, which seems to be clips from episode 1, and the episode now streaming. For instance
when the guy jumps from the ledge, in the promo, you clearly saw his body hit the ground. In the stream, the camera fades to black. If it is, I hope the DVD release is the uncut version.
Also as soon as you found out the history of the characters, you knew Hisashi was toast!

From what I can tell, that was the only edit done to the streamed episode.

Yeah, it’s all I noticed too, though we only got to see a few scenes ahead of time. But it’s possible that the content was altered from the promo video as well. It’s pretty hard to say. It just seemed like such an odd thing to edit, especially considering all the stuff that didn’t get edited.
With the half-hour delay (many viewers could not get connected to TAN’s Online Player until 00:30 CDT), it means that we got to see the episode just 3 hours after it started showing on the AT-X satellite feed. The people in Japan who don’t subscribe to AT-X haven’t seen it yet!

Yeah, I was wondering about that also, and since I noticed that one, it also made me curious if the couple other fade to black moments were edits as well, or if that’s the way they decided to do it.

Yeah, in this one, it would almost seem pointless with everything that was left in. It just seemed odd to me. I’m sure someone will figure it out definitively in a day or two, once the episode airs on more channels.’
Still, like the edits in Daimao, these don’t bother me much, as they don’t affect the story line. But my DVDs better be unedited!

Oh ya just remembered, anyone else notice Zeke(the dog)was busting a Snoopy on top of a dog house in one of the photos during the credits, at the very top.
Yeah, at 21:11, just before the fade to black.
And between pictures of Zeke and the main cast, there is a picture of the BFFs, deceased.

I don’t think that is TAN’s doing more then likely that scene was cut for some odd reason for the broadcast versions. The other one which is more odd to cut is when the girl gets bitten on the head. You see it happen to the point of her eyes rolling back into her head. This you only see right before she is bitten in the head. It could be to fall more in to one of the other more rare now a days Zombie clichés. Sometimes in video game or movie where they show someone about to get bitten ,but don’t actually show it then they pop up later as a Zombie for dramatic effect.
All in all I enjoyed the first episodes and while they showed more then two of what I take are the main characters they only focus on two and a third that looked like he should have been a main character ,but fell into another cliché . Having to kill a best friend who was infected who had become a rival for the love of a childhood friend of the opposite sex.
I’ll keep watching that’s for sure great, great stuff. Can’t wait for the introduction of the rest of the cast and to see where the show takes them. Subtitles for how short of time they had to do this were amazing. Major props to the subtitle team and all of the people involved in bringing this show over so quick.

So true!
I wrote him off the second he said he was a karate expert. Everyone knows you never get near them but you always go for the head!
i was pretty sure during the opening scene, by the way he and Rei limped around the corner, that he had been bit during the outbreak and what was in store for him later.
the fade away: i noticed this too, since it was one of the more graphic parts of the trailer… not sure why they would do this… but once again, not a big deal…
im surprised that there were no panty shot edits. im glad… although i miss laughing about the translation text.

as far as the BFF scene goes, ask yourself if you wouldnt kick your friend in the face down the stairs to possibly get away from the “monsters” attacking everyone around you? you can cry about what you’ve done later when you are outta the heat of battle and safe. Although, she got her karma dished out to her right away… lol

I must have been seeing things when I saw the first bootleg cell phone video of the trailer cause it happens the same way as in the episode. :side:
I’m not much of a horror fan, but this was bloody fantastic. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
It was pretty obvious that Hisashi was a goner from the beginning. It added a great level of tension between Takashi and Rei. She sure changed her tune when she thought she would be left alone.
