Maid Sama! / Kaicho wa Maid-sama!

I think Hinata is just in love with his past. Misa became his ideal and he obsessed over her, but I’m not sure he’s really in love with her or the person he imagines her to be. I think he’s just in love with the thought of being in love. Where he took her friendship and made it into something more.

It seems Hinata was the popular kid back in school at home. He’s very sentimental too, in keeping the wrapper from the piece of candy that Misa gave him when he left when they were children. But he still seems to be more in love with an ideal.

Misa is invited to a Yumemichi concert and Takumi invites himself along as well. I loved the puppy dog face he gives Misa when she questions his going and her ensuing blush.

It’s “Fortune Telling Day” at the cafe and Hinata’s future with Misa is seen as a “sinking paper boat” but he puts a positive spin on it to suit himself. Hearing the fortune teller agree with Hinata, Takumi asks for his fortune as well. He is told that he has no future with Misa at all and both Misa and Takumi are shocked. The fortune teller says that they are “fire and water” and totally incompatible. Even Hinata looked at Takumi with sympathy when the fortune teller said that “neither can accept the other”. But she also says that if they want to be together, they would have to overcome a “great challenge” (Hinata?).

However, I wonder if all this is just Erika’s way of getting Misa to wake up and admit her feelings for Takumi. Sadly, it seems that Takumi takes this prediction to heart and is very down when he meets Misa after work. She does try to cheer him up in her own abrasive way, but it isn’t until she lets slip an inkling of her feelings for him that he finally cheers up. Unfortunately, Hinata witnesses this and walks away with an angry expression on his face.

The next day Hinata tries to help Misa out with some cleaning at school and ends up soaking both of them, which also made me think of the water part of Erika’s prediction. Of course, Takumi shows up and points out the transparency of Misa’s clothes. He is definitely the fire element! Misa is unconcerned but with Hinata ogling her, Takumi takes off his shirt and covers Misa up. Once again, Hinata is witness to their deeper feelings for one another, although nothing is said between them.

I almost felt sorry for Hinata until I saw his determination. He has to realize he’s fighting a losing battle here. I liked it when Takumi barked at him before walking off with Misa, making him angrier. But as his tears flow, he barks back. Even in the flashback his friends can see that he’s in love with a fantasy and encourage him to face reality. Perhaps he finally will now, although it doesn’t look like Hinata is ready to give up just yet.

On the day of the concert at the Yumesaki School Festival, Misa is separated from her friends and gets stuck alone with Takumi. And she goes into a panic when he suggests that they have some “fun”!

I got the feeling that Takumi was behind some of the festival things. During the Balloon Quiz, he murmurs – “I wonder if the distraction is necessary anymore?” I think he was plotting to get Misa to himself all along. I wouldn’t have been surprised if he put the whole festival together himself and got all of Misa’s friends in on it! Perhaps he was even responsible for “Fortune Telling Day” in the previous episode too. I think he can be quite devious when he wants to be. Maybe he was responsible for the Romeo and Juliet costumes as well.

But even after she almost admits her feelings to Takumi again and they kiss – the fireworks were a bit cliche, but still a nice touch – Misa goes right back to saying that she hates him, although it’s so obvious now that she means the complete opposite. And they continue holding hands, which was very sweet since Misa said she had always wanted to do that with him.

I really liked the ending after the credits. It looks like everything is back to normal – Suzuna is still winning sweepstakes, Aoi is back with Satsuki, Hinata is still determined to win Misa’s heart. Everyone goes to school the next day and there is a nice added touch of Takumi embarrassing Misa in front of everyone when he tells her he loves her and throws in a “Ma’am”. And it looks as if the story hasn’t really finished as others gather around them, which is as it should be. As much as I hate to see this end, I’d like to think the story is continuing in its own way. This was a great anime! And another that I will miss seeing every week.

I will miss this one also, Wicca! I just hope the ending indicates there might be a second series following up some day soon…

That would be lovely!

I would buy this immediately if someone would release it on DVD. hint hint

I think you’re reading too much into Usui’s actions. I think he wanted to distract Misa from feeling the pressure of being on a “date”. Maybe he was afraid that she would go back to her friends instead of spending time with him. I thought the ending was very sweet and suited both their personalities. Misa just couldn’t some out and say she loved him and Usui couldn’t help but tease her!

Ditto!!

You might be right Shady, but still…

Anyway, it was a lot of fun!

I was just looking to see if it’s on sale at RSI and apparently it’s not available yet; that’s kind of a surprise as I was planning to buy it too.

Yeah, I don’t usually want to run out and buy an anime right after watching it but this one was a definate buy before I was even half way through. Any word when it will be available?

Amazon has the first collection on sale at the Moment.

Q. I was wondering, do you have a date set for when Maid-sama will be released with an English dub?
A. Right now we don’t, but I’m sure a date will be announced soon.

Ep 1 was fun. We know the lead actor and actress for the dub but is anything else about it known?

Other than what has already been posted in release PR, nothing else has been posted.

Knowing the leads this far out is more than usual (though perhaps it is par for the course for dubbed rereleases) but still:

P.S. New spoiler tag system ain’t cuttin’ it.

Rightstuf sent me a shipping confirmation for this so I’m getting a bit extra for Christmas this year. Looks like I might avoid getting “Log Horizon’d” with this one after all

My copy showed up today!

Log Horizon’d again. Once again, by the time I see this dub most posts about it on the interwebs that I’d make would be necroposts

Hopefully it won’t be like the IS2 dvd where the package got caught in USPS limbo for days.

For whatever reason, RS decided to ship this as first class mail. Normally I get media mail from 'em.

All of my shipments sent over the past few weeks have been First Class bubble mailers.
