All-star to be featured, alongside several other celebrity voices, as a character based on himself.

The latest cinematic addition to the Pokémon franchise is due to come out later this month, only this time it will be bringing along a little extra team spirit with it. One of the things that will make the latest Pokémon movie, Pocket Monster XY: Hakai no Mayu (Pokémon XY : Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction), special is the fact that it will be the first Pokémon movie to feature the voice of a popular athlete.

Soccer star Atsuto Uchida will be playing the part Usshi, a hotel porter, who was based directly off of Uchida himself. On top of their shared physical appearance, the all-star also serves as his character’s namesake, as “Usshi” is actually the nickname that Uchida holds in Germany, where he currently plays for the German association soccer club, FC Schalke 04.

Uchida expressed his difficulty adapting to the role of a voice actor, saying, “It was hard for me to do voice acting with emotion because it is in my nature not to show my feelings too much, and I’m not good at expressing my feelings in words.” Despite this, Uchida was thrilled to be involved in the creation of this new Pokémon movie, as he used to play various games from the Pokémon series during his youth.

Uchida is not the only celebrity to be featured in Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, which will also include voice actor Koichi Yamadera, as well as TV actresses Shoko Nakagawa, Yoshiko Mita, and Rika Adachi. Of course, in keeping with Pokémon movie tradition, Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction will feature an all new Pikachu short, titled Pikachu, Kore Nanno Kagi? (Pikachu, What Key is This?). Mayu Watanabe, who was recently crowned as the new leader of AKB48 will be lending her voice to this short, playing the role of its narrator.

The movie will hit theaters throughout Japan starting July 19. For more information on the film, you can check out the official website.

“Doridori” inspired by Serena, to begin airing on October 16

Singer/voice actress Shoko Nakagawa announced on Wednesday that she will perform “Doridori,” the new ending theme song for the ongoing Pokémon XY television anime series. She made the surprise announcement during her first LINE Live show to promote her Shokotan Cover Ichibangai-hen CD release.

The song is inspired by the image of the character Serena, and Nakagawa co-wrote the lyrics with Yūho Iwasato. (The title comes from the song’s lyric, “Dori-Dori Dream Power.”) Kentarō Suzuki composed the music. The song will begin airing in the anime in the October 16 episode, but she will perform it for the first time during her Fall solo tour “Donyoku Kakumei” on October 12 and 13 at Tokyo’s Zepp Diver City venue.

Although Wednesday’s live show was only about 30 minutes long, it attracted about 100,000. In response to messages from online viewers on LINE, she sang the “JoJo ~Sono Chi no Sadame” song a cappella, complete with poses from the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime.

Pokémon XY’s Sunken Ship Episode to Air After Being Delayed

Episode delayed in April after South Korean ferry sinking

The official website for the Pokémon XY TV series announced that the “Kaitei no Shiro! Kuzumō to Doramidoro!!” (Castle at the Bottom of the Ocean! Skrelp and Dragalge!!) episode will air on November 20 after being delayed for seven months.

The announcement of the delay was made in late April, shortly after a South Korean ferry sank off the southern coast of South Korea. Of the 462 passengers, including 325 high school students, more than 300 were confirmed dead.

In the episode, Ash (Satoshi) is fishing on the Muraille Coast when he pulls in a Skrelp that inflicts Pikachu with a deadly poison. A passing married couple is able to provide an antidote. The couple are underwater archaeologists who are looking for sunken ship in the area so Ash and his friends decide to help, but Team Rocket also comes looking for the ship’s treasure.

The first compiled volume of Kiku Suguwara’s Holy Holy manga series, which depicts a shipwreck, was also delayed after the South Korean ferry sinking. The volume was slated for May 12 and was ultimately released on June 12.
