News About Outlander

Today, June 12, I received an email from Outlanderā€™s wife. She informed me that Outlander had passed away on May 1 due to total liver failure.

She said that he had started out in ICU in March and had moved in and out of the hospital four times before going into hospice for 8 days with her, their corgi, and a wonderful care staff and church pastor.

She also said to pass along the fact that he had really enjoyed his time here at TAN and how much he liked chatting with everyone here.

I know that I, myself, had several long and, at times, hysterical conversations with Outlander.

Iā€™ll miss his very special brand of humor mixed with the grumpiness that you just canā€™t fake.

Goodbye, my friend.

Oh Godā€¦ Iā€™m so very sorry to hear this! :frowning: I was hoping that Outlander was alright since I hadnā€™t seen him on in quite awhile. This is terrible to hear. Outlander will truly be missed here by me. He was one of the first to welcome me here in the beginning.

We will miss you so much and your priceless sense of creative humor. You were one of the ones that made it a joy to be a part of TAN. My deep heartfelt prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family. You are in a much better place now my friend.

Thank you Slow for passing the sad news on. Today is a sad and heavy day. But, I will remember all the good times and jokes.

I was beginning to wonder why heā€™s had such a long absence from these boards as of late. To find out this was the reason is beyond sad and heartbreaking. He will be seriously missed here. I always found his posts incredibly funny and enjoyed how ā€œout thereā€ he was at times. You wonā€™t find another like him.

My condolences to his family through this very tough time.

Outlander=TAN forever.

Thank you for sharing this, Slowhand. My heart goes out to Outlanderā€™s wife, and all those who knew him better than I. I do wish I could have talked with him more, but I can only remember fondly the times we did.

Outlander did add a piece to TAN that I will always miss, and which cannot be replaced. I hope he left content with the legacy he left behind.

Goodbye, friend; may you rest in piece.

I did not speak with him much personally but I always enjoyed reading his stories. He truly had a unique way of looking at things and had a very creative mind.

Is there anything special they could do on the site in his honor? I feel like we are all a family here and we would be able to do something like that. Iā€™m not sure what though. Just a thought.

Outlander was such a great guy. He always knew how to make me laugh (and/or feel uncomfortable).

Condolences to his family. Iā€™ll miss you, man.

Outlander was one of the first people who greeted me when I joined the forums, the day before I got a job at Anime Network almost 10 years ago. Throughout those ten years, he always found a way to insult me, call me out on not being here enough, rub my good name in the mud in TAN Magazine, and be a general nuisance every time I talked to him. Iā€™m sure he wouldnā€™t have had it any other way, and neither would I.

I will miss our crazy talks through PM, the playful jabs, his utter disregard for any type of decorum, and everything else that made him who he was to myself and all of us here.

I tried to cry myself out in the car earlier today, but I ended up crying in a meeting in front of a bunch of people a few hours ago.

Itā€™s comforting to know that even though I cried for him, he probably would have still called me a little baby. :ā€™)

outlander was an amazing man. He shaped this community into what it is todayā€“incredibly close with a constant pursuit of a good laugh. I have met few, online or offline, who have left such an indelible impression on me.

Iā€™m glad to hear that he passed in good company.

Thank you Slow for notifying us of this.

This is truly sad news. I will miss his special brand of humor. He made TAN more enjoyable, more hysterical, and more awkward than anyone else. I always looked forward to his posts.

My condolences go out to his wife and family.

There is nothing I can say to adequately describe how devastating this is or how amazing a man Randy was. He personally helped shape the sense of humor of a generation of TAN members and his loss will be felt by us all. Iā€™ll miss you terribly man, and whenever I look at my plush fox you gave me or see a windowless van drive by, Iā€™ll think of you. You were one of the good ones. You were one of the best things to ever happen to these humble forums and you will never, ever be forgotten. We love you outlander!

Thank you Wicca and Slowhand for doing your parts to notify us all.

Shakujou told me the news. I am deeply sorry to hear this. I had to stop by to leave my own message about it. Outlander was awesome. He was always the type to have a terrible joke for every occassion, and if it werenā€™t for him Iā€™d never know the word floccinaucinihilipilification.

Sad to hear him go. Thatā€™'s just wrong.
