S1/Ep 2
Rito wakes up next to his naked “fiancée” and falls out of the bed in shock! Worse, his sister walks into the room. She takes one good look, apologizes, and leaves, slamming the door. Rito is sure he’ll never be able to explain. Too late, Peke dresses Lala.
Lala explains she’s there because they’re engaged and it is an Earth custom after all. Peke agrees with Lala’s assessment, but Rito tries to explain that isn’t the situation. However, one look at Lala’s tear-filled eyes and he backs off, leaving Lala to declare that the wedding is still on!
Rito tries to explain again, saying that he doesn’t remember proposing to her, but Zastin comes through the window to explain things to Rito. I love this alien! Standing on Rito’s bed in full armor, he proceeds to apologize to Rito for their previous meeting, not realizing he was Lala’s betrothed. Rito is sure he isn’t really sorry and the guy won’t even take his boots off! He says that Rito’s proposal was “traditionally Deviluke”.
Apparently, Rito’s confession to Haruna was not a proposal of marriage to Lala. Nope, his proposal happened before that. Back when Lala first appeared in Rito’s tub and he found himself with his hands on her breasts, and looking into her eyes – that was the proposal! But did Rito really say he loved her? Rito is just more confused, as Zastin tells him that it was a perfectly proper engagement ceremony. Rito just looks like a deer caught in the headlights! LOL
Once again, Rito tries to explain, but Zastin tells him that if it was a misunderstanding and he fondled Lala’s chest without being in love with her, well in that case, he just declared war on Planet Deviluke! He draws his sword and points it at Rito. As Zastin tells Rito about his king, Rito whimpers that it was an accident. Zastin is not pleased and tells Rito that his king would destroy Earth. What can Rito do to get out of this situation? Either choice is awful to him.
Lala steps in and grabs Rito, saying that he isn’t that irresponsible. Rito looks ready to pull out his hair as Lala tells Zastin not to worry as Rito truly loves her. More good news. Zastin tells Rito that by marrying Lala, he will become the heir to the throne and will one day rule over a multitude of planets. He tells Rito that a mere weakling won’t be able to handle it. Will Rito’s nightmare ever end?
Lala tells him that she wants to spend the rest of her life with him. Rito wants to explain again, but his sister calls out that he is going to be late for school. Lala seems puzzled by this word. Rito is later seen walking through the school’s hallway and his friend mentions how miserable he looks. Well, sure – the fate of the Earth is in his hands!
He wants to say something, but Haruna is walking towards him. She averts her eyes and walks right past him. This only depresses Rito more. While he’s in class he thinks about his situation and refers to Lala as “the pain from outer space”. Good one Rito! But his thoughts turn to Haruna and why she seems to be mad at him. He really wants to clear things up with her, but how?
He follows her after class, all the way to the locker room. Knowing he can’t go in, he waits in the hallway for her to come out. However, a commotion catches his attention. Just great, Lala is there looking for him and making a spectacle of herself as all the boys wonder who the cute girl is. And that outfit!! Is it a costume? The boys watch her with hearts in their eyes. Love at first sight!
Rito grabs her and demands to know why she’s there. She was just curious about the “whole school thing”. The surrounding boys want to know who she is and as Rito thinks of something to say, Lala tells everyone that she is his “bride to be”. Great reaction from one and all, including Rito!
Now all the boys are mad at him as Rito sputters to explain. Not happening, as Lala just makes things worse. LOL So much for Haruna. Poor Rito. All he can do is grab Lala and run as the angry mob chases him. He still wants to just talk to Haruna, but it looks like this won’t be a good time.
Meanwhile, Haruna seems very down. She wonders if Rito’s confession might have been meant for her. And who was that “strange girl”? At the moment, Rito and the “strange girl” have hit a dead end. As the mob closes in, Rito tells Lala to warp them! As they disappear, they leave behind the group of stunned boys – and Rito’s clothes. Rito’s friend wondered what happened to them.
Rito and Lala end up naked and falling out of a locker. And – dare I say it? – of course they fall right in front of Haruna! Haruna is shocked, but Rito must have forgotten that he’s naked because he gets up and approaches Haruna to explain. Haruna’s reaction? Why, when approached by a naked boy, you slap him of course! LOL
Rito is home, dressed and depressed, with a slap mark on his face, and Lala clinging to his arm. He finds his sister calmly having tea with none other than Zastin! Can this awful day get any worse? Worse yet, his sister is totally cool with her brother marrying an alien princess. Once again, Rito tries to explain (just give up already!), but his sister and Lala are too busy bonding. Zastin smiles as he sips his tea and Rito just wonders how he lost control of the entire situation. But I wonder if he ever had control. LOL
Rito wonders how he can stop this and how will he ever be able to face Haruna again? And if he doesn’t do something soon, he may have to end up getting married. As Zastin interrupts his thoughts to talk about the future, Rito grabs him and takes him out of the room. Next thing you know, Zastin is pointing his sword at Rito again and is threatening him over a broken engagement. Rito said it was just hypothetical and is relieved that Zastin seems to be an idiot.
Rito asks – hypothetically – if there is a way to break the engagement without causing a war and Zastin has to think a moment. Well, yes, - hypothetically – there is a way. Zastin explains that there is a cooling off period, much like a return policy on Earth. However, there is only a three-day period to do this. And there’s a catch. Rito has to reenact the same event that got him into the mess to begin with. Rito only has until tomorrow night to grab Lala’s breasts again and declare that the engagement is off.
But can he do such a thing? He thinks of Haruna and resolves to do it, so he and Haruna can have a “happy future”. I know this is going to backfire! Rito sets his alarm clock to tomorrow night. He tries to sneak up on Lala. She’s playing a video game and it’s funny that the fighting character she’s controlling resembles Zastin. Rito gets in the perfect position and just as he’s about to do the deed, Zastin is suddenly there in the flesh. Rito just falls to the floor. Rito’s sister is there too, and looks thoughtful. Maybe she realizes what is going on. Her bother is a pervert, after all.
Later, Lala is in the shower and Rito sees another chance. He opens the bathroom door and comes face to face with Peke. Peke accuses Rito of trying to peek at Lala. Lala comes out of the shower and seeing Lala naked again, Rito flees. Rito later joins his sister and Lala and announces that he’s going to bed. Lala says she will join him, but his sister calls him a creep. Questioning his motives, his sister reprimands him. She then tells Lala to come sleep in her room. Another missed chance for Rito!
Once again, Rito wakes up to a naked Lala. A perfect opportunity? He reaches out and success! Much relieved, he comments on the softness I his hand, only to realize he’s holding Peke. He throws Peke from the bed, and Lala wakes up. Rito gives up, telling Lala to just go back to sleep. All during the day, Rito thinks of Lala’s breasts. He keeps trying to touch, but a series of strange accidents occur, preventing him. It gets to a point where there is only one hour left to break his engagement.
Rito takes Lala out for a walk so he can talk to her. He decides to be honest and invites Lala to sit next to him. The setting is romantic. Sitting on the riverbank, staring out at the moonlit water, Rito says he wants to discuss the engagement. But Lala tells him how happy she is and how he saved her. She tells him how hard it is to be royalty and how she is expected to just accept things without any regard for her feelings. She goes over how Rito treated her as a person when they first met and how he helped her without even knowing who she was. She tells him how grateful she is.
Then she asks what he wanted to talk about. Feeling awful now, Rito tires to get up his courage to tell her the truth. He thinks of Haruna and is about to blurt out the truth, when the alarm clock goes off. Realizing his failure, he faints.
The next day, as Rito leaves the house for school, Zastin and the men in black offer him congratulations. Rito tells them to just shut up. During class, he again thinks of his situation and says that school is the only place he can relax. Maybe things will just work out on their own. Then again, he still needs to talk to Haruna. Happy that school is the one place where he won’t have to deal with Lala, maybe he can patch things up with Haruna.
Not so! There’s a new student transferring in, and it’s none other than Lala! Poor Rito!!!
