For Toonami viewers, does it really matter who is in the Japanese cast; are they in the English dub?
Because of last minute (with how these things work anyway) Hellsing will take a week of as Toonami basically needed to air all the remaining Beware the Batman episodes this weekend before they lose the rights to air it.
Bad news: We JUST (like, hours ago) found out from our legal department that Beware the Batman and Sym-bionic Titan are being “written off,” financially, as of now. Therefore, after this weekend neither of those two shows will be a part of Toonami again, unfortunately. What’s the good news? Welp, because we hate to bone you Bat-fans by simply yanking the show, we’re running ALL of the remaining unaired episodes THIS weekend from 2:30a-6a, for one last Bat-blow out. FYI, Hellsing fans: that means we skip Hellsing this Saturday, but don’t worry- it will return next week at an earlier timeslot! Schedules for the next two weeks below:
9_27_14
11:30p – Attack on Titan
12:00a – Bleach
12:30a – Space Dandy
01:00a – Shippuden

02:30a – Beware the Batman

05:00a – Beware the Batman
05:30a – Beware the Batman
10_4_14

12:00a – Bleach
12:30a – Shippuden

05:30a – Samurai Jack
Thanks, and sorry- these are the kinds of surprises we DON’T like!
Love, The Toonami Crew.
Wow that’s crazy. Thanks Miquelfire for posting this.
Now I’m curious about the November schedule and what’s replacing Attack on Titan and Bleach in 5-6 weeks.
I had written them both off long ago, glad they are going away and a bean counter does right for a chance so anime can appear on Toonami, but this just goes to what I have been saying about TV program providers and planning and how NONE are doing it right.
duck duck duck duck duck duck
see it isn’t hard to get them in a row!
I am just curious if all these episodes are the “missing ones” or how many of them are ones that never appeared in the initial CN run? What will happen after Bleach runs out then, will the block go back to being midnight~6am if they are missing a show or two?
probably more Funi show: Toriko or maybe Fairy Tail. Maybe something Viz: Gargantia or Blood Lad.
I doubt Toriko. Funimation seemed to have given up on that series after the first run.
Tumblr Q&A This SUNDAY at 11:30a!
It’ll start up at 11:30a and go until around 1p or we hit the daily post limit. Hit us up!
If Toonami isn’t interested in airing Jojo, Fairy Tail, Kill la Kill, etc, long running series and they decide to stick with Viz and Funimation series that stays modern, Tiger and Bunny and Future Diary are my choices (although it took some thinking) but Viz is the issue here. The other question mark here is, will these newcomers kick off the block or will there be another adjustment?
This may be where we get answers. DBZ Kai I’m betting on premiering after Hellsing ends. We’ll see.
EDIT: Adding this too. Somebody asked about Generator Rex and Secret Saturdays.
I’d actually watch the program if they streamed Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures :SC.
Toonami Discusses Space Dandy’s Future, DBZ Kai in November

The staff of Adult Swim’s Toonami block revealed that more Space Dandy projects are a possibility.
“It’s quite possible Dandy will be back as a movie or OVA, less likely that there will be a new series. We hope for more Dandy, though!”
The staff also announced they lost the licenses to Beware the Batman and Sym-Bionic Titan. The new line-up starting on October 4 is:
11:30 p.m. – Attack on Titan
12:00 a.m. – Bleach
12:30 a.m. – Naruto Shippūden
1:00 a.m. – One Piece
1:30 a.m. - Gurren Lagann
2:00 a.m. – Hellsing Ultimate
3:00 a.m. – Space Dandy (begins re-running)
3:30 a.m. – Cowboy Bebop
4:00 a.m. – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
4:30 a.m. – Ghost in the Shell: 2nd GIG
5:00 a.m. – Big O Season 2
5:30 a.m.– Samurai Jack
Hellsing Ultimate screenings will still not be cut for time but are still “minimally” edited for content. The staff confirmed they will get the final two episodes in English.
The programming block will air the Bleach finale without cuts for time. After its finale, Toonami will replace Bleach with Dragon Ball Z Kai on November 8. Bleach and the original Naruto “will most likely not get a re-run” on Toonami, but Space Dandy, Attack on Titan, IGPX, and FLCL are planned for reruns.
The programming block will run a month of movies in December, but a return of “A Month of Miyazaki” is unlikely.
DBZ Kai? How completely boring.
Not only will there only ever be one DBZ that should ever be on a Toonami programming block (IMO) and it ain’t Kai but DBZ Kai has been done to death and can, or at least could, be found showing on TV elsewhere during the week.
Viz is really missing an opportunity here to procure and run Jojo’s.
DBZ K?
BOOO, BOO…hiss, hiss…(add tongue sticking out smiley here)
If Toonami really wanted another fighting/battle show, they could have picked something WAY newish/better and shorter.
Phi Brain (battle of the minds)
Needless (battle in a post-apoc world)
Accel World (battle in “The Matrix”)
C control (battle for economic supremacy)
Madoka Box (because girls can kick behinds too)
Toonami Q&A - 9-28-14 (Full)
Dragon Ball Z Kai will premiere on November 8th @ midnight, replacing Bleach.
They have the rights to Space Dandy for a long time.
The rights to Big O season 1 are currently unavailable.
The original Naruto series will not be returning.
IGPX and FLCL will return to the lineup at some point.
It looks like they have replacements ready for Attack On Titan and Hellsing Ultimate.
Attack On Titan will get another run.
Rights to air the uncut version of episode 6 of Gurren Lagann aren’t available.
Hellsing Ultimate has surpassed their expectations in terms of ratings.
Cowboy Bebop will start airing in HD as soon as the files are ready.
They’re looking into more hour-long shows based on Hellsing Ultimate’s success.
Bleach will most likely not get a rerun.
There will be another month of movies in December.
Top most requested shows currently: Sailor Moon, Kill La Kill, Sword Art Online season 2.
Month of Miyazaki did "pretty well, but not amazing."
They normally plan 6-8 months in advance for Toonami programming.
Getting more “off-timed” shows like Hellsing Ultimate will be rare due to time restraints.
Young Justice will not air on Toonami.
World premieres like Space Dandy are not likely to happen anytime soon.
They’re still not getting paid for Toonami.
The vast majority of Toonami’s audience is male skewing.
They will not be skipping any episodes of Naruto: Shippuden.
They won’t be “chopping up” the final episode of Bleach.
Watching the official Adult Swim stream or on TV both help equally.
Getting shows “snatched up” by competitors happens all the time now, with places like Netflix.
- So Dragon Ball Z Kai replaces Bleach which is surprising but not unexpected. There was a chance of that happening. I figured it would air later because I just don’t picture DBZ near the front but it is a safe choice and we’ll see how it does in the first several weeks.
- AoT and Hellsing Ultimate’s replacements in time will likely be headline news if they can’t reveal them now.
- Young Justice not airing on Toonami is fine because it’s fair to say the Toonami crew don’t need another heart attack announcement like this week. Let sleeping does lie.
- If AoT is getting another run, I hope for a later slot. 11:30 P.M again wouldn’t be wise. Surely didn’t expect that.
- The top 3 shows aren’t surprising either. SAO Season 2 being the latest entry.
Very good Q&A overall. We got a piece of the schedule puzzle revealed anyway.

Toonami Runs Dragon Ball Z Kai Ad
posted on 2014-10-19 17:20 EDT
Series will premiere on Adult Swim’s block on November 8
The staff of Adult Swim’s Toonami block posted a Dragon Ball Z Kai ad teasing the show’s upcoming network premiere.
Toonami will replace Bleach with Dragon Ball Z Kai on November 8.
Dragon Ball Z Kai (known as just Dragon Ball Kai in Japan) condenses the 1989-1996 Dragon Ball Z anime series to more closely follow Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga. The series features digital high-definition remastering, a re-recorded soundtrack, and select scenes updated with new effects or re-animated footage. The 2009-2011 run of Dragon Ball Z Kai covered from the Saiyan Saga to the Android Cell Saga.
The “new age of Kai” began on April 6 in Japan, and it is covering the Majin Buu Saga arc with more episodes.
One of these days I’m gonna have to get around and fully watch this here Dragonball thing anime franchise. See what it’s all about…
That and Sailor Moon…and Narutoe…and One Piece…yadda yadda
Oh…and anything Gundam.
Unfortunately, seeing SM to see what it is all about is prohibitive as Viz insisted that the Toonami version of it no longer exists. I suppose the sub still has the “magic” from “the day” but it was the dub and the TV run that got it its fame. DBZ is in a similar situation.
What I find surprising about that DBZ Kai trailer is that it is 4:3 pillarboxed. This is odd as Funimation has been going full bore on its misguided campaign to force the 16:9 zoomed DBZ (non Kai) blurays down our throats for quite some time now, supposedly because of a fan survey that indicated prospective viewers wanted it to fill the whole screen.
Kai is supposed to be the pared-down, “abridged” DBZ so I find it interesting that the “CliffsNotes” version of DBZ contains info that the “pure” DBZ does not.
Has Funimation learned the error of its ways, or is it CN telling Funi “no dice” to a zoomed picture?
I wish they didn’t play Cooler’s Revenge AGAIN but it is something to get us excited for the series so I’ll forgive it.
“But at least I know: I’m…still…Cooler!”
