Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyojin

No human gummy-bears for you!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Edit: I’m surprised Tulsa’s bible thumpers allowed those heathens in their territory. :silly:

Now you’re making me feel bad because I wasn’t disturbed by the show

I wasn’t disturbed by the show, but I am fairly disappointed. The show isn’t bad, but it’s definitely not deserving of all the hype it has received. I’m also disappointed by the dub, which also isn’t terrible, but isn’t particularly great either. I was hoping Funi would have brought their A game, but I guess not. I just hope it improves as it goes along.

Funimation went to extraordinary lengths with the dub of this one and that leads me to believe that they brought their A game but unfortunately their crack players scored on their own goal.

I would say that Titan’s dub is poor as it is painfully cheesy and disjointed. Since Funimation brought in a guy from CA who is known for just that in dubs, I have to believe that this was intentional. The acting in this dub seems like it was going for a Starship Troopers tongue-in-cheek (which I enjoyed) thing but completely missed the mark.

If only Titan had taken itself seriously :frowning:

Season 2 of Summer 2013 hit confirmed

While this might explain a great deal, I wonder just how much influence Pacific Rim had as it came out well after Titan started.

Having now experienced the dub of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders and its deliberate tongue-in-cheek, melodramatic technique, I believe that I know what McFarland and Funimation were shooting for with the Titan dub.

Brett Weaver returns? Hopefully he’ll stick around and maybe work his way over to a Sentai show (or a better Funimation show) someday.

I don’t know what has brought the anime legends from yesteryear back into the fold lately but I approve.

What? Brett Weaver’s been doing Sentai dubs from the get go: Tears to Tiara, Intrigue, Hakuoki: Shinsegumi, and maybe one or two more. Granted, more would be better but it shows he never left.

And Attack on Titan is a fine show, not the greatest thing since sliced bread but still way better than Arby’s.

I don’t know about that. I’ve been kinda disappointed in Titan, but is probably take an Arby’s turkey club over it.

As you mentioned, Weaver has only been here in a ā€œonce in a blue moonā€ (like other ADV mainstays). Hopefully his Titan appearance is a sign of more roles to come, that it’ll upgrade his dubbing frequency from ā€œRob Mungleā€ to ā€œJessica Calvelloā€

AoT is a fine show if we’re talking fine to mean ā€œokayā€ or ā€œpassableā€. I wouldn’t call it exceptional.

Unfortunately, the dub of Titan is something that I would call exceptional: exceptionally bad. I’d hesitate when making the choice, but if it came down to it then I’d probably take the nasty, boiled roast beef sandwich (they say that they smoke it for 13 hours nowadays but…) from Arby’s over watching Titan dubbed.

Holy crap, we actually agree on a dub! It’s not terrible, it just comes across a little lifeless and poorly cast to me.

Attack on Titan Editor: Manga to End in 3-4 Years

Shintarō Kawakubo predicts manga’s legacy will last decades

That’s a bit rich IMO: I’m not even willing to say that FMA or even Eva have achieved such legendary status.

Having gone through some of the Titan manga, if it is going to be a ā€œmanga classicā€ that will be passed down and revered for the next 50 years then I do hope that they’ll go back and redraw the opening volumes of it as the art in them really does need some help.

The Titan manga running for another 3-4 years will put it at 8-9 years running. With all the filler in the first seasons of the anime, and having experienced the (usually horrid) filler arcs in the major shounen titles, I think that’ll be far too long to tell a fluff-free story.
