This could take a turn for the hilarious regarding the Funi dub if it turns out that Armin actually is female. Even if such were to happen, IMO they would have still made the correct choice by casting Grelle.
Though what answer did they expect as aren’t Eren and Armin the only people with whom Mikasa aren’t standoffish and silent?
