I did jump to Pale Moon when FF made the big UI switch (and was still refusing to go 64-bit) but the one problem with PM is that YouTube insists on limiting it to only 720 quality. If I want anything higher, I have to use Waterfox
I actually corresponded with the Mozilla Developer that was in charge of the UI when they first started making mistakes, back in 2008 or so. He conceded that their choices were going to alienate a certain percentage of their user base, about 2 to 4 % per Mozilla’s estimate. I pointed out that at that time that would be about 2 to 3 million people. Those people were mostly the “Evangelist” types that promoted Firefox and to loose them would hurt. He said that they did not care and were happy with the direction they had set.
They’ve since lost market share and seen multiple forks of their code base by various groups. I believe I was right and he was wrong.
Well I finally went ahead and did a full install of Windows 10 on my HP Laptop. I used the latest ISO with the update that makes it possible to use your Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 license key for the install, in this case it was the Windows 7 key from 4 years ago when I got the laptop.
So far I’ve been busy killing off all the peek-aboo-ware and making it look like a real Windows install instead of a gaudy toy.
So, some time ago (Don’t remember when) I discovered that you can watch anime on Funimation’s site on your Android tablet. It seems they have a HTML5 player. The downside is that all the quirks of using it is the same as the Flash player, meaning the bar with the pause button, the timeline, volume and full screen button is hidden until you move a mouse over the player, which you can’t do with Android unless you have a mouse hooked up… I also found you can’t use Chrome’s Chromecast feature as that cause the JS on the page to think you paused the video, and eventually some DRM thing will think you’re not watching, and the stream will get killed off.
Last night, I remembered how I found a way to watch anime here (before the redesign) on the Wii U, because you can change the user-agent to ios. So, this morning, I tried to watch something without changing the UA first. Didn’t work. My thought process was to see if maybe you need a subscription to view it (because ads haven’t been added to the HTML5 player yet, like how here, you get the Hulu (flash) player if you’re not a premium member), so I signed in. Not change… So I changed the UA to Android Tablet and it worked! iOS device may work as well. Best part is, since the way the Wii U handles video ALWAYS includes their controls, I can actually use the time scrubber! (I tend to not watch OPs and EDs, most music is not to my tastes)
Now, I need to see if you need to use the UA switcher to watch anime here on the Wii U or not. As I’m not a premium member, I need to find a show that I can get the HTML5 player with.
Looks like a variation on the “Bone Phone” which used the collar bone to pass sounds into the ear. Those worked, but they weren’t known for the quality of the sound they produced.
I have a pair of bluetooth bone conduction headphones. They work well for voice or gaming, but they leave something to be desired for music. I got them so I could hear ambient noise unimpeded while listening to headphones, and so I could listen to stuff when I have my ears plugged and it works on both counts.
If Sony can take the technology to the next level, that’d be pretty cool IMO.
