I never was, Outlander, so Iâm not too worried about Darth.
Fillet - Some of it yes, but not because itâs anime. If the story line is good and some ding-a-ling girl and/or her chest/legs/underwear arenât characters, then I guess I enjoy it. I also think about what it would be like with people in it. Though I can never figure out what actors for what roles.
Noooooo! Itâs not his fault! Please donât take him away!!! Pleeeeeeease?
Donât be silly, I donât keep them (not the married ones), he just needs a little discipline.
Nice to see you have a catch and release policy. :woohoo:

It would be way too crowded otherwise, and I donât need a bunch of wives/girlfriends hanging about.
Perhaps we need to get you in to some more adult anime. Less bust, more story!
And yes, Slowhand has also had to deal with the rabid fangirls after her men down in that dungeon of hers! It really annoys her and makes her crack the whip that much harder. Good for crowd control.
Resistance isnât futile! Itâs the duty of every prisoner to try to escape!
We have watched some good shows. Phantom Memory Kurau, Biblioteca de Dantalian, Bamboo Blade, Hell Girl, Moribito, Black Butler, Baccano, Antique Bakery, Gunslinger Girl and Clannad are on that list. There might be some others but those are the ones that come to mind.
I figured out what the real intent was behind the attempted anime conversion. He wanted to find something that would make me not complain about having football on! :silly: (Not that I did. Or I donât think I didâŚ)

Two can play at that game! Throw anime at him when YOU want to watch something he usually complains about.
But⌠but⌠I wonât be able to sleep! Canât you send him home at bedtime? Iâll send him with wine and brownies if that helps.
Look at it this way - he wonât be sleeping either.
Hmmmm⌠okay, as long as I get to keep the video.

As I write this, please know that I understand a large percentage of anime is made to pander to adolescent Japanese boys who wouldnât know what a real girl was like if they ran into one. Also, know that this is my opinion.
I think Iâve figured out what is bothering me. Itâs the difference between a character (female or male) being sexy and being sexualized. As an example, The Major in âGhost in the Shellâ (canât remember her real name) is strong, intelligent, good looking and speaks her mind. That is sexy. Then they turn around and dress her provocatively, draw her in a way that almost no woman on earth can look and basically make her a fantasy doll. Why? What in the world do her legs or her chest have to do with story? Nothing! But there they are, cheapening her character. I donât think she needs to be in a burqa, but she doesnât need to be dressed like a stripper either. In this second season she seems to wear more clothes, but the damage is done.
Then take a character like Balsa in âMoribito.â Many of the same characteristics, along with kindness and compassion. She wore regular clothes and was drawn in a way that didnât distract from her character nor detract from the story. Iâm pretty sure Tanda thought she was the hottest thing since sliced bread. Or toast. Or something hot. Kimchi! No wait, thatâs Korean. Kurau in âPhantom Memory: Kurauâ wasnât -at least to me- a sexy character, nor was she sexualized. But they started to edge in on it a little bit with her young sister Christmas. Super short skirts, off the shoulder tops; not stuff for a 12 year old. (Which is about the age her character seemed to be.)
Thereâs âXXXHolicâ with Yuuko Ichihara. Drawn and dressed in an over the top way. But that was part of her character. She was supposed to be a drunken tease, so that fit. Was part of her character also intended to pander to the male audience? Of course it was. But how she was dressed and drawn made sense for the character. A cyborg secret operative dressed in an overtly sexualized way doesnât make sense and isnât necessary.
I donât like what those images represent, how they can effect women and men (whether they are consciously aware of it or not), and the damage that can be done. Too many accepted media images - not just anime - are simply normalized pornography. And that, my TAN friends, is the kind of anime I donât like.
Yes, I know I didnât pick any male characters, but I couldnât think of any right off hand.
There you have it. Iâm sure this could get my TAN âkarmaâ points knocked into the negative numbers, or cause some backlash. Just remember itâs one personâs opinion about some anime and nothing that is meant to change anyoneâs opinion, beliefs, likes or dislikes.
I have to agree that it leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth a little while after seeing one of my favorite characters become sexualized. I wonât deny that some of the series I see slip it in there and I donât mind it if itâs logically acceptable (within tolerable parameters, which in anime can get far out there depending on the show). It makes me think slightly less of the artists/directors; there is a point (as I believe you said) to which it becomes over-bearing and so unnessisary that you canât help but distract yourself with the question of âwhy?â. I think I am very lenient with much of what people try to get away with (heck, Iâm a fan of Strike Witches), but there are times when I have to stop and ask myself âwhy did they do this?â, and that can sometimes ruin a good part of the show for me or make me take it less seriously. :<
Thanks, Iron K. Tager, thatâs exactly what I mean. There was a show that Rish was watching - I canât remember what it was - and I started to watch the first episode. It looked like it had potential and then the unrelated-to-the-story boob jiggling started. I was done. It had nothing to do with the story and at that point, I couldnât be bothered.
Look, I have nothing against breasts. Heck, I have two myself! (I have nothing against sex, either, just for the record.) I just donât need the exposure to the constant sexualization of characters.
Based on all that, how about some recommendations? :cheer:
