I have to agree with you. To start things off… I’m a 24 year old guy and even when I was a hormone raged youth I got tired of the constant fan service in my face. Don’t get me wrong… sexy can have its place. But, only when it is genuine (True to the character model or a point in a story… let’s say a romance.), and not where it seems like the writers and directors are trying too hard.
The main reason I became an anime fan was because of the amazing stories and believable emotions of the characters. Fan service can be funny at times, however it tends to get old quick when overused. The sad truth is that the anime industry is hurting and simple fan service sells. I can say that the most recent anime releases reflect that very point sadly.
It is very true that a large majority of the anime industry is directed toward young guys. Of course, that doesn’t stop females from enjoying anime as well. However, I can very well understand that you can only turn a blind eye to it for so long until it becomes simply annoying. So with all my jabber… I am in total agreement with you MrsRish.
As far as recommendations go… I’m not real sure what genres you’re into. Just throwing this out there… have you seen Baccano!, Casshern Sins, Ergo Proxy, Eureka Seven, or as a wildcard… Ghost Hunt? Also, it is non-anime, though animated, have you seen the movie Titan A.E.? That one is a must see… hope these helped some.
I will have to go with Lumis on the not knowing anything that you are into. Sorry, I’m sure you’ve said something on it before, but I don’t pay too much attention. And I have no clue what you’ve seen before.
Anyway, if I had to throw some out there that I really liked (I’ll try to be considerate of it’s content :P), I would say… Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Murder Princess, Hayate no Gotoku, Princess Tutu, Cowboy Bebop, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Spice and Wolf, Squid Girl, and Chrono Crusade. Again, complete shots in the dark, but I hope you enjoy those you look into. :3
Add: Kowarekake no Orgel; it’s an OVA and I think a movie (which I haven’t seen), but I loved the OVA. :cheer:

Watched Fullmetal Alchemist, but as the version of Brotherhood that we had was subbed, I didn’t really pay much attention. TV is as much an audio medium as it is visual. Cowboy Bepop was decent except for Faye Valentine’s hooker clothes. Haruhi? Sorry, but the slut-wear she made the other character wear was just dumb. (And I have an issue with brats, even if keepng them happy does mean that the universe continues to exist. ) Spice and Wolf was okay, though wolf girl is as creepy as cat girl. Squid Girl was fun. Haven’t seen the others, but am willing to give something a try.
I do have to give credit where it’s due. Rish does work to find things I will like too. I appreciate that. I wonder if I’m just over-saturated? Oh well. It keeps him happy and that’s important.
You can also find it on Hulu as well. Pretty much everything has access to Hulu now if you have the ability. Check it out if you like…

Also, it is nice to meet you. Sorry that I kind of barged in here. How rude of me not to introduce myself. I haven’t been a part of the TAN boards for long, however I can say that I feel at home here. Hope I wasn’t intruding.
:silly:
I’ll go ahead and drop some links to the suggestions I made earlier that are currently available to my knowledge if you’re interested…
Baccano!
Casshern Sins
(Note: Check back later for the dubbed version or favorite it on Hulu so that episodes will be added to your queue automatically.)
Ergo Proxy http://www.hulu.com/#!ergo-proxy
(Note: Check back later for the dubbed version or favorite it on Hulu so that episodes will be added to your queue automatically.)
BTW… here is some info on Titan A.E.. Besides from it having the perfect blend of awesome CG work and animation, plus having some top-notch actors doing voice work, I’m sure you should like it.
Lumis, you didn’t barge in, you joined in! And welcome to TAN!
I have seen Baccano and liked it. Forgot to put it on the list. Ergo Proxy sounds familiar - I think I’ve seen that too. I just looked at some pics on google images and it looks familiar. And I will look at some of the other things you mentioned. Thank you.
Thank you for the welcome. It is much appreciated! I have been meaning to make an intro here for awhile… however I just keep dodging making it. I guess talking about myself is not a strong suit of mine. Anyway… thanx again, and I am glad that I was able to help some.
Also, I know what you mean when it come to becoming ‘over-saturated’. Anime can get like that since there are so many ideas used over again. But, I guess that could be said for all forms of entertainment too. A lot of the recent movies coming out have not really caught my attention… and I love movies. Funny thing… I guess you have to pick and choose your entertainment, and anime, carefully to avoid drowning in it all.
If you look at the anime as a whole, you will see good character and relationship development. Also a primer on simple barter economics[/quote]
Oh Outlander, there was no disrespect intended on my part. Spice and Wolf is one of my favorites because of that very fact… it steps outside of the box. I am looking very forward to a third season.
I am sorry, I was only making a broad statement about anime and other entertainment mediums as a whole. Of course, when looked at in other ways, there will always be what I call “classics” that will rise out of the sea of entertainment to say. Horo… you have my ultimate respect.

I did see those things. In fact, if you notice, I said Spice and Wolf was okay. I’m just not a tsundere fan. They remind me of too many selfish, self-serving women that I’ve known. But I do stand by the cat-girl, wolf-girl thing being creepy. Just an opinion. And as for why Squid Girl didn’t bother me the same way, all I can say is that maybe it’s because it was a goofy show. It didn’t take itself seriously.
Nope. We’re watching Samurai 7 right now. It’s good. There are a couple of other things that came in a RightStuf order, but I’m too lazy to get off the couch to see what they are.
