If neo-adv wanted them I’m sure they had the first choice to re-license them.
That’s not the point at all.
Besides, the licenses were held by ADV which does not legally exist anymore. It’s likely and quite possible that when the company restructured they lost whatever rights they had to the shows. The same thing happens with most licenses should a licensor declare bankruptcy.
Neo-adv still has as far as I know Angelic Layer, Princess Tutu, Divergence Eve & Misaki Chronicles,Ths ugly yet beutiful world, Yumeria, Elfen Lied, & many others thats not Sentai Filmworks.

That’s hard to say.
Since the restructering, we’ve heard nothing about those shows, no re-releases or anything.
That being the case, you can’t say you know for a fact that they still hold the licenses to those.

Also, several of these are set to have their streams and DTO’s expire here and at other sites over the next several months. Often, the digital license may expire after the DVD rights, because TAN may have negotiated them separately. Remember how some Sojitz shows continued to air of TAN for a while after the licenses went to Funi?
The licenses formally held by ADV, that have not expired or been invalidated by their restructuring, are now held by AeSir Holdings. They will most likely wind down operations once all these licenses fully expire, or are transferred or picked up by Sentai.
Only one of those has been re-released since the changes, and that was Petite Princess Yucie. It followed only a few months after ADV re-released it. Generally, they’ve only done that when a DVD license is approaching it’s expiration. ADV was always pretty good, especially towards the end, at putting out a final release so the title would remain on the market for a while.

No, not Gantz. So again TAN(ADV) loses some of it’s best works to Funi. Funi doesn’t have to do the work of producing and dubbing these great series, but will make money on them.

Yes, sadly true. Though many of these shows are being picked up primarily for their channel and streaming efforts, not necessarily the DVD sales. Kaleido Star in particular had disappointing sales and we were lucky to get the second season at all. Even if they decide to go blu with these, the upside will be limited, especially with Funi’s track record there.

Maybe they’re stuck in a vicious cycle and don’t know how to get out of it. Sorta of like what happened to Geneon.
Other than that, I have all of the singles with extras, so this means nothing to me. I just feel kinda sad for anyone who’ll end up buying Funi’s DVD versions: no extras, bad video, crappy packaging, etc.
And let’s not even start with the BD’s. :X
That’s right, these were Gonzo show too, weren’t they. Makes me wonder, with Funi being buddy-buddy with Gonzo, if they’re gonna be giving Gonzo animation duties on their first co-production of Dragon’s Age.
I doubt that was the case at all. Since Gonzo and Funimation made that partnership. Funimation has been getting first whack at their titles. So it probably went down like when the ADV license expired Funimation jumped on these. May not work out well for DVD sales since the ADV sets are still widely available for all of these. Like Cody said in the end this is probably for streaming and their TV channel more then for DVD.
I’d honestly not touch Funimations releases of any of these since Funimation still has issues with their video encodes. I’m fine buying new shows from them ,but stuff that’s already had a good release I’d go for the older releases since Funimation’s encodes are iffy at best. I believe the problem stands with to much crowding and not knowing how to work with the less space. A sub only release on 2 disc is fine ,but add a dub they really should just add at least a third disc since they seem very challenged on how to do 2 disc right. As for Blu-Ray they’d have to be upscaled and with the time from which these are from they’d stand a good chance of looking worse then better.
Again I don’t hate Funimation just think for what is supposed to be the best Anime company now they could do better for the sheep that blindly follow. You know lemmings off a cliff may have been a better analogy.
In the end I’m pretty sure this while saddening to us fan’s of what was the best Anime company ever it is for the best since the sales of these are pretty much dead in the water. Even when they re-released these at a major price cut they did not fly off the shelves.
While I didn’t like seeing these titles go to Funimation in a way it makes me wonder if AEsir Holdings, LLC. is just letting licenses expire or selling them off to other companies. First it was the first two seasons of Full Metal Panic! now four Gonzo titles. It makes me wonder which former ADV title they will get next since AEsir isn’t releasing any of ADV’s former catalog.
Although if AEsir did let the titles laps and with their Gonzo partnership most likely gave them first dibs like psychopuppet suggested. (Maybe this is Funimation’s way to get back at Neo-ADV for getting S · A: Special A although they probably didn’t want it anyway.)
However Kaleido Star puzzles me as one would think it would have been acquired by Sentai because ADV had an active part in that title and is listed in the production credits.
I am just hoping that if AEsir’s license for RahXephon ever comes up for renewal or expiration that Sentai grabs that title. I wouldn’t want it to go into Funimation’s hands.

Considering the RahXephon (TV) license has already expired on TAN, there’s a chance the license has already expired for AEsir as well.

Too many people againsr Funimation, no wonder why I don’t see people from Funi forums here.
That’s why we are on the TAN forums. If you didn’t realize that many of the people here don’t particularly care for Funi, you haven’t been reading the posts on the forums for the last few years.
SLick
This is kind of sad, the Kaliedo Star preview(the one on Newtype DVDs with the opening playing) was one of the first trailers and themes I ever fell in love with from ADV. I did find the second season disappointing and thuse never grabbed the box set but it still is sad.
However if we get the OVAs especially if they bring back the dub cast(more likely than most think look at Second Raid) I will have to grab it.

The chances of a reprised dub cast for the OVAs are very slim, since they’d have to put a fair amount of money into it for
More than likely, if they actually get the other two OVAs, they’ll be subbed like the Vandread OVAs are with the Vandread Ultimate Collection.

Not really against we more don’t care for a lot of the things they do. They came in when everyone else was having trouble used their sugar daddy and DBZ money to look like heroes. Some of us just don’t look the other way because they dub almost everything. Seriously I know a lot of people that took the big stick in the behind because hey they were getting dubs.

Really if they spent money on dubbing the OVA’s even though they are actually continuations of the story not recap/compilations like the Vandread OVA’s. I’d have to wonder what they are smoking and where I can acquire some.

Technically, only the ~Layla Hamilton Story~ OVA is a continuation.
The Good dayo! Goood!! OVA is more of a fluff interjection.
That being said though, as the good possiblity of very low sales for yet another KS release, the feasibility of actually reprising the dub cast just to dub 75 min worth of OVAs just seems rather low.
If Funimation had their choice for FMP: Second Raid they would have went with their in house studio IMO. It was Kadokawa Pictures USA that wanted consistency with the English dub (that was the main reason I liked them). They could have easily got most of the ADV FMP cast to record the dub at their studio since some of the key VAs also work for Funimation.
If Funimation does get the OVA (~Layla Hamilton Story~ at least) and contracts the dubbing out to Seraphim Digital Studios then I will most likely reconsider some of my negative thoughts about them (I only have few but I do give them praise for dubbing all their titles). The only way for me to purchase the Funi KS release is for the OVA. I already have a previous ADV release of the others so I won’t need to buy the Funi version.
Plus with Gantz I doubt Funi will go through the trouble of putting the extras ADV did on their release plus ADV’s Perfect Score collections will most likely be the best release for that series collection wise (It is only five discs with four being episodes and one extras with a good encode something Funi hasn’t mastered.)
