Wow, that writer is taking the Ghostbusters thing pretty hard. Paul Feig stated that the movie would need to make at least $500 million to break even. The article itself mentions that Sony would want at least $300 million, which it acknowledges the movie hasn’t recouped.
The article pins hope on the toy sales to make up the difference but the toys selling well seems unlikely to do that as there were reports that the toys were moved to the bargain section before the movie even opened.
Star Trek might actually recoup its large budget. The latest film also has the backing of a very well-heeled Chinese company.
We went last weekend and enjoyed it. Except for the couple in front of us who had too much ice in their drinks. Amazing how much noise it makes in those plastic cups - not to mention the crunching.
IMO there were eps of the TV shows that were worse than Star Trek V. I liked it better than the times that Star Trek dabbled with actually “godlike” entities like Q.
On Q though, it is odd that the incarcerated “deity” that was the villain in Star Trek V seemed far weaker than Q, who had been revealed 2 years before ST:V released.
