SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES “TSURITAMA”

HOUSTON, April 18, 2012 — Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce their latest catch: Kenji Nakamura’s (Ayakashi – Samurai Horror Tales) tsuritama. Originally airing in Fuji Television’s prestigious noitaminA block, tsuritama is sure to be the catch of the day.

You can’t catch fish if you don’t go fishing, and you can’t make friends if you don’t at least try. Which is how relationship-challenged student Yuki finds himself on a fishing trip to a tiny island with three other boys he barely knows. Well, two other boys and Haru, who claims that he’s an alien. Not that constantly stewing Natsuki or mysterious Akira are any more likely as prospects for good companionship. But there’s something about fishing that makes it unlike any other pastime, and maybe that quiet sense of companionship and hopeful expectation is just what Yuki needs to start charting the unfamiliar waters of personal connections. Or maybe it will turn out that Haru’s right and they’re going to have to save the entire planet. There are lots of different kinds of fish stories, from the “ones that got away” to the “best catches ever,” but whichever way the currents of life take them, for four young men, this trip may turn out to be the biggest whopper ever in tsuritama!

tsuritama will begin release through select digital outlets soon with a home video release to follow.

Episode 10 –

spoiler

I love those squeaky DUCK suits! I know Haru is trying to protect his friends, but they really want to help him catch this alien “dragon” thing. They come up with a plan based on an ancient scroll and make their way back to Enoshima under false pretenses. The duck – cat pregnancy was genius! But I thought they’d get caught for sure when Misaki’s stomach started moving around like that! Those DUCK guys are always easily fooled, it seems.

I’m glad Yuki made it back in time too, although Haru wasn’t too happy to see him. However, Haru explains the situation to him and it turns out that Haru and his sister, Koko, are fish!!! And now she is part of the other alien’s “horde”! Yuki gets Haru to accept his help and they meet up with everyone else. But DUCK finds JFX first. And of course they fall under its mind control. It looks as if Ayumi’s boat got blown up in the process. I hope Ayumi is ok!!! But what will the heroes do now?

Episode 11 –

Ayumi appears to be ok, and the boat is fine too. But just as the heroes prepare to depart, DUCK shows up to stop them! They take Haru and strip Yamada of his DUCK membership. Luckily, the guys are able to get away. But it doesn’t look like Yuki is getting anywhere in fishing for JFX until he colors the lure red. And just when things seem to be going good, DUCK makes the drastic decision to fire missiles! The lure breaks and Haru can’t protect them anymore, so he decides to be the lure himself. Wow! I can’t wait to see if this works. Will they get JFX or will Duck fire those missiles? In the meantime, it seems everyone in the town is dancing. I guess they didn’t evacuate in time.

Episode 12 –

spoiler

Using Haru as the lure turned out to be a good idea. Does that mean he’s a red fish? But the missiles are coming and this is their last chance! Things get worse when they all burst into song and begin to dance. Tapioca was so cute!

Yuki does it and suddenly the sun is out and it’s raining fish! Everyone in the town is ok and Haru and Koko are back on the boat. JFX is such a tiny little fish! I was expecting something slightly bigger since history refers to him as a dragon.

In the end, Haru and Koko take Urara home in their pink mushroom ship and the friends part ways, but it isn’t a sad occasion at all. Six months later, Grandpa has made a new scroll depicting the boy’s adventure and calls it “Art-o”-shima!” Hysterical!

It seems to be a happy ending for all, especially when a transfer student is introduced to Yuki’s class - Urara! He tells the class he’s an alien and sits next to Yuki. Yuki is surprised that no one seems to care Urara is an alien – mind control or acceptance? But Yuki invites Urara to go fishing with him. I was surprised they let Urara come back to Earth after all the trouble he caused the last time, but this time there is someone with him to keep him in line.

After the credits, Haru walks in to the classroom with a fishing pole! Yuki is shocked but the class stands up after Haru announces himself, points to him, calls him “the alien” and starts to laugh! It was nice to have this show end in laughter and have Yuki and Haru reunited. This was really an unexpectedly fun show!!
