As far as dubs, the answer to that is easy… That’s what the mainstream and majority demographic that watches VOD, TV and DTO. Anime Network is doing a good job in providing more balance with more subtitle content though. But that is only a small demographic of the demographic that watches this stuff.

The otakus that are a large portion of the sub-only watchers watch via DVD or illegal methods. The only way to attract this group in any major and meaningful way is via simulcasting.
Aye, I just think TAN could get more subscribers and a wider fanbase by putting out subs or at least working on deals so that when an anime by such and such company releases in Japan they’ll air it here too, around the same time.

By the way, simulcasting?

Are you asking what simulcasting is? If so, it just means the show would stream or air here shortly after, or the same time as it airs in Japan. So pretty much what you were talking about.

Rai said they would love to do it, and he hopes it’s something his higher-ups are considering.

I too hope TAN is considering simulcasting. I think it would be the perfect way to expand their online subscribers and promote their service more.
Aye aye!
We all agree then

What’s best is that they (whoever’s dubbing anime, Funimation, ADV jr, etc.) can then dub the REALLY famous or sought out animes. Which would in turn keep our favorite English VAs employed and kicking ass.

But yes, simulcasting could work
If anything using advtertising could work, other sites like joost use commercials in their online streaming.

I would like to see some feature length anime on VOD. like for instance, Oh I don’t know, … Like " Kili’s Delivery Service" or the Cowboy Bebop Movie

Is God real? Or is he/she just a figment of our collective consciousness? And if so, how many fingers am I holding up?

Where’d all the lulz go?

Why are you such a whore?

Disney have a lock on all of the Ghibli (apart from the ones that mention periods o.O ) and I’ll bet they either keep them for their channels or charge an enormous premium.

We’re lucky in the UK, we have a satellite broadcaster who runs them every year.

I have one concerning the online player

On other websites, Crunchyroll, Hulu, even Funimation’s player when one pauses the video still loads, however The Anime Network is a load as you watch.

Why is that, and is there a possibility you could go the other way?

Also any chance if what I ask above isn’t possible you could add more anime to Crunchyroll?

LOL speaking of the devil! I was remarking yesterday to Rai and the other mods how I missed the old days and seeing you around. :frowning: Do drop in more, even though the forum is a bit more template-ish.

Spirited Away plays on Ovation, and Howl’s Moving Castle played just yesterday on IFC.

I have also seen quite a few others on Ovation, and TCM…so Disney doesn’t have a very good lock on Ghibli films.

Srsly though it’s pretty big, we house the studio here too, so from time to time you’ll hear people rattling around over there. Other than that, its just like any other office, but with awesome soisoisoisoi everywhere haha.

Is there enough room for my hypothetical pony and rainbow?
I will try another question since the last may be too hard or involve NDAs.

Why don’t anime importers figure out that some of their viewer base have poor eyesight, and while providing sub-only may be good to continue getting anime around the world, the poor choice of subtitle used makes it impossible for many anime to be enjoyed or even watched when the viewers can get nothing form it but bits and pieces of words they hear in the original language?
Good question. This goes back to the piracy issue, where most of the sub only anime people watch come in the illegal form. Since sub groups are currently running rampant, the quality they put out will vary significantly. The only reliable source for sub only anime would be through the distributors, who hire professional translators for their releases. I’ve heard of some sub groups going legit though, so who knows?
Why don’t distributors explain to the Japanese and other anime makers that not everyone has perfect eyesight like them, and might be able to enjoy their anime, if they had the chance to enjoy not only the art, but the story as well?

:frowning:
Wait this is going into a whole different tangent. Sub only releases are done by the American companies. If you read one of my earlier posts, you’ll see the flow of how some sub only shows can eventually be dubbed over with English.

=D

The answer to both of those questions is: I don’t have control of the forum’s backend anymore.

We might be looking into changing the JWplayer in the future, not sure when. Adding more anime to Crunchyroll? How about adding more anime to the OP? >.>

NO PONIES OR RAINBOWS OF THE HYPOTHETICAL KIND IN THE OFFICE.

If you had my job, i suppose you could convert a space for ponies, rainbows are a bit harder to corral, but i know you can do it Pretear! ^_~

Sadly he went upstairs one day and never came back down. Poor Seven, I mean Kevin…

so what’s the story behind ADV’s new moniker?

So this is kind of an office myth. If you listen to “Only Shadow” By My Bloody Valentine (old shoegaze band, NOT emo band) with the bass low and treble high, you can here most of the mystery behind all of the new names.

Well, they purchase rights to air those movies from Disney, just like how you will often see Touchstone movies on TBS or FX. Disney doesn’t just air their movies on their own channels. It’s much more profitable to sell them to other broadcasters as well.

Theoretically, TAN could purchase rights to air those, but they would probably be rather expensive and would have much more limited time frame than shows they’ve purchased from Enoki. Disney doesn’t give stuff away cheap.
